please clarify

It would be nice for those of us who aren't employed in the music industry to be explained exactly to what the term "the publishing" refers. -99.61.189.200 (talk) 05:00, 21 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I think what is meant here is that some of the holders to the mechanical rights of the recording sampled (these are not necessarily the 'original recording artists'), are demanding 100% of the royalties to the new song (i.e. 'you are allowed to sample my song X on your song Y, but I want 100% of the royalties earned on Y'.
