revert
This article needs to be reverted. Is there an easy way to put it back to this version?--Will2k 12:40, Jul 27, 2004 (UTC)
- Well, no worries, I put the article back anyway.--Will2k 12:53, Jul 28, 2004 (UTC)
Hidden sex scene?
This definitively seems to be a trick played on All Fools' Day (see the date of the post in the linked site).

GTAVC fifth game in series?
Can anybody clarify this "fact"? How is Vice City the fifth game? «LordViD» 15:51, 30 December 2005 (UTC)
Let me clarify this further; according to Grand Theft Auto (series), this is the order of the games' release;
- Grand Theft Auto(main game)
- Grand Theft Auto: London, 1969 (expansion pack)
- Grand Theft Auto: London, 1961 (expansion pack)
- Grand Theft Auto 2 (main game)
- Grand Theft Auto III (main Game)
- Grand Theft Auto: Vice City (main game)
Therefore, ignoring the expansion pack, GTAVC would be the fourth game, not the fifth. Not ignoring the expansion packs, GTAVC would be the sixth game, so I don't see why it was called the fifth game in the series. I changed it to fourth, if no one objects. Also, amongst the fan community, GTAVC is often called GTA4. «LordViD» 16:01, 30 December 2005 (UTC)
actually, you are mistaken, GTA: london 1961 was not an official expansion pack therefore the list is:
- Grand Theft Auto(main game)
- Grand Theft Auto: London, 1969 (expansion pack)
- Grand Theft Auto 2 (main game)
- Grand Theft Auto III (main Game)
- Grand Theft Auto: Vice City (main game)
therefore making VC the "fifth" game in the series: Dar-zero 07/08/06 15:02 GMT
Australia
The release date for Australia was not 2004 it was 2002, I played it then! Please find the correct date and fix it ASAP Mike 09:55, 9 January 2006 (UTC)
- That's funny, Gamespot states it was released on 2004. So do all other sites I've checked. Mike, can you find any websites that verify it was released prior to this date? LordViD 01:21, 10 January 2006 (UTC)
- Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas was released in late 2004 or early 2005. Vice City. I haven't looked for a source however I own the game and Believe it was released in 2003. Mike 06:19, 10 January 2006 (UTC)
- I believe you, I really do, but unless you can verify this with a good source, I can't add it. Maybe it was a North American version of the game you played, perhaps? LordViD 11:33, 10 January 2006 (UTC)
- Yeah true it needs a source however if the one on there now is wrong its the same deal correct? Mike 11:51, 10 January 2006 (UTC)
- Not the same deal, the one on the article is backed up by many sources. LordViD 16:06, 10 January 2006 (UTC)
- Australian Sources? Mike 22:07, 10 January 2006 (UTC)
- Well I Guess I have to believe it although I'm sure it came out a while before as I was introduced to it in 2002 or 2003. So anyways I hope the date is correct Mike 04:54, 11 January 2006 (UTC)

The comment that some gamers are having trouble running the game on a 500 MHz Pentium III should be removed, since the box states the minimum requirements is a 800 MHz Pentium III
Rewording of Opening Paragraph
I don't know if its just me but when i first read the opening paragraph of the page it makes it sound like that GTA:Vice City was only released to the rest of the world after the highly succesful North American launch which isin't true. I was wondering if anyone else feels the same way before i make the edit and also that we can discuss how it can be fixed so that we can limit the number of edits to make it right. Changing homages/references
I suggest the section of homages and references should be divided. Right now, it is a complimation of several elements, while it would be handier to have a clear distinction between a section of typical subjects of the 80's and homages and references to popular culture, mostly movies. For references to 1980 decade, I was thinking of fashion, the self-help programs, the Cold War, drugbaron Pablo Escobar, booming real estate etc. Popculture homages are more in line of the characters and story lines, for instance, in Carlito's Way the main character is also released from prison and finds himself in a drugdeal gone wrong. Besides that, Ken Rosenberg is based upon a character from the movie. The heist mission is quite similar to the bank robbery in Heat. Several people in the game are loosely based upon actual persons, like Steve Scott is an obvious reference to directors Steven Spielberg and Ridley Scott, who had their biggest succes in that era and Candy Suxxx is a wink to the upcoming porn industry. Any thoughts? --Soetermans 22:10, 4 July 2006 (UTC)
- Seems like a good proposition, but the problem is that most GTA games reference numerous pop culture and media. Typically, cultural references are too trivial to merit their own sections, but in Vice City's case, it's worthy of mention because the game is cited for using (primarily 1980s) elements to create a convincing gaming atmosphere. However, we may be forced to limit the list of topics to those linked to the 1980s, which includes restricting Heat (mid-1990s) and Carlito's Way (mid-1970s) from inclusion, because it still seems unrelated to that decade. ╫ 25 ◀RingADing▶ 19:03, 5 July 2006 (UTC) ╫
- That is a good idea. In that case, will you do the honors? Your English is better than mine and you are accustomed to Wikipedia. --Soetermans 09:08, 6 July 2006 (UTC)
- Actually, it's a good idea to put in your edits first, and then I'll fix whatever requires correction, because I'm not all too clear of what more could be included in this section. ╫ 25 ◀RingADing▶ 19:46, 7 July 2006 (UTC) ╫
- It took me some time, but I this more or less what I had in mind. Also, I deleted the part about the gasstation because it is not a typical 80's thing nor a popular culture reference. I hope you will agree with me.--Soetermans 20:24, 12 July 2006 (UTC)
Different Versions
I need someone to know two things. What is the difference between the American version of GTA: Vice City and the Japanese version. And what are the three differences between the PS2 version, the Xbox version and the PC version of Grand Theft Auto: Vice City. Best Gamer 29 August 2006

SeanMCSean's edit
He should be banned from touching this page. This moron edited my entry calling it Miami and Miami Beach, and said on his edit, "Miami Beach is in Miami." First off, this is the most common tourist misconception in the world. Miami Beach, Florida is it's own city, with it's own mayor, and it's own city council, and police, and fire department, and everything. Anyone who claims Miami Beach and Miami are the same is full of shit, and should be flogged.
In fact, Miami, Florida is only 35 square miles, the game takes place in at least 5 different cities. Miami airport is not in Miami, it's in unincorperated Miami-Dade County. Please leave the geography to the native Floridians please. Thank you. ReignMan 21:29, 3 June 2007 (UTC)
Then how about we just say that Los Santos is based off Los Angeles and Compton and Watts and Hollywood and every other area! Seriously, shut up, if we put in that its based on Miami and Miami Beach then we might as well mention all the other places. So i think just mentioning Miami is good enough. Sean mc Sean 22:46, 3 June 2007 (UTC)
The fact you said Miami Beach is in Miami is the most absurd, idiotic thing I've ever read. This is an encyclopedia, and therefore the content should be verified. This is as vulgar as saying New Zeland is in Australia. As for SA, the idea is that it's based on LA, San Fransisco, and Las Vegas, which is the appropriate way to describe it. But half of GTA:VC takes place in the city of Miami Beach, not Miami. This is a very valid point. Here's another point, there is no Watts, Ca and Hollywood, Ca, these are not cities. Compton is a city.
GTA:SA Takes place in an entire state, with much shrunken versions of many cities. VC is a snapshot of a very small portion of a much larger city, in 1986, when it was almost tiny compared to today. Esentially, it covers this area:
Miami and Miami Beach are 2 very different cities, and are massively seperate in many ways, they are more like Los Angeles and San Diego. LA is 470 sq miles, Miami is 35. Miami is almost 4 times as dense as LA. There are huge differences. Miami is a massive cluster of small towns, LA is a huge central city with many suburbs.
I just like to keep the info straight. ReignMan 02:34, 4 June 2007 (UTC)
Oh, well my mistake, i thought Miami Beach was in Miami just because i don't know shit about Miami because i don't really care about Miami, but just to tell ya, Los Santos is not based on Los Angeles, San Francisco and Las Vegas since there are three cities in San Andreas and the other two San Fierro and Las Venturas are based on San Fran and Vegas, Yes, we all know that the Cities in GTA aren't even close to the size if there real-life counterparts, but like i said if we add Miami Beach we might as well add all the other places. Now go back to Florida... We don't like yer kind round' here. Sean mc Sean unsigned.
Well that's as may be, but wiki is not a game chat forum, and we DO care about encyclopedic content. The fact is many people are ignorant to this fact about Miami Beach, and we should be concise. We need to say, SA is based on LA, SF, and LV, where as VC is based on MB and Miami. This is a VERY important point as a huge chunk of the game is based on landmarks in Miami Beach, not Miami. VC takes place in 2 cities, realistically, if we consider NBV and all west Miami CDPs to be unimportant, (but Dodge Island is a part of Miami). The other fact is we can't prove that these CDPs are even the ones depicted in the game. KMIA is not in one city, it's in an unincorporated area near the Flagami district. If you think that not fact checking your submissions is for wiki, you should leave. We always doublecheck our work for accuracy. ReignMan 02:51, 5 June 2007 (UTC)

Themes and inspiration
Hello! Under the Themes and inspiration section, it has the unverified research/claims flag. I read through the entire section and all of the information is indeed accurate as anyone who plays the game can verify. I'm going delete the flag. If anyone has any objections, feel free to discuss them!

We need new image.
It sucks that we don't have the cover, so can someone please do something? We really need the game cover so people get clue how this game looks like without having to go further down to the article to find out. TheBlazikenMaster 16:03, 9 August 2007 (UTC)
