- The figures are based on averages over many years, and the information is from a reliable website. If you continue to have doubts, contact the local weather service in Hastings. Sweet Pea 1981 (talk) 04:37, 5 April 2009 (UTC)
Tornado Hill
[edit]Someone should add a picture of tornado hll during the summer and one with it covered in snow. If anyone knows the height of the hill this would be interesting information. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 68.118.146.222 (talk) 03:18, 15 October 2008 (UTC)
NPOV concerns
[edit]This article's references to prostitution and alcohol are insufficent and the language implied is not research based. Specific sources citing specific crediable research is lacking. Citing one court case from 1940 does not constitute factual information as Grand Island being "a dubious center of prostitution" (i.e. compared to what other cities, etc.) Please revise this article as factual research rather than conjecture.Mr.yetti 19:44, 30 March 2007 (UTC)
- I think that could be verified with Diffendal, Anne P., "Prostitution in Grand Island, Nebraska, 1870-1913", in: Heritage of the Great Plains 16 (Summer 1983): pp. 1-9. --Matthiasb (talk) 16:15, 21 May 2011 (UTC)
Police academy
[edit]The Nebraska Law Enforcement Training Center is not the sole agency for training law enforcement in Nebraska. The Lincoln, Nebraska and Omaha, Nebraska police agencies operate their own academy which is accredited through the State of Nebraska.
Verification
[edit]As there is so much to do (and stubs not added) especially as they relate to the new State Fair, I suggest we ask someone at the Visitors and Convention Bureau, the Grand Island Independent and at Stuhr, to assist us in the edit and to verify the information contained. We want this entry to look professional and clear of warnings. Paul Warshauer —Preceding unsigned comment added by Paulwarshauer (talk • contribs) 12:18, 15 June 2009 (UTC)
- Please keep in mind that this is not a place to promote the city. The events will need to be notable. The state fair already has a page here, so just a reference to indicate that it is the home of the fair is all that is needed. Please make sure that the other events meeting meet the Notability criteria as listed here Sweet Pea 1981 (talk) 14:41, 15 June 2009 (UTC)
Sugar beets
[edit]The claim that "[t]he first sugar beet processing factory in the United States was built in the southwest part of Grand Island [in 1890]" is supported by the ref, but is dubious. The Deseret Manufacturing Company (DMC) had a sugar beet processing factory in 1855, in a Salt Lake City neighborhood now known as Sugar House. It ultimately failed due to inexpert handling of the the equipment, but it did exist. Likewise E. H. Dyer was processing sugar beets in California, and after several attempts similar to DMC, was finally successful in 1879. These examples and others predate Grand Island's example. -- 71.223.125.226 (talk) 02:13, 17 May 2010 (UTC)
Southern Power District
[edit]Is the "home of the Southern Power District serving southern Nebraska" actually worthy of distinction? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 71.8.248.34 (talk) 21:50, 19 January 2011 (UTC)
