Uncited claims

[edit]

Editor Ggealey, whose handle invokes article subject Grace Gealey, claims she is the subject and continues to make edits without any reliable-source citations whatsoever.

First, anyone can claim to be anyone, and there's no possible way to ascertain whether this is the actress or a fan pretending to be her — that used to happen all the time with Facebook and Twitter, until those sites began doing "verified" pages. So there is a huge amount of precedent for fans pretending to be a celebrity on social media.

Second, even if this is the article subject, edits based on claims of personal knowledge are original research and unacceptable. If claims about this article subject are verifiable, then it's simple: Find a reliable source and cite it. That's all you have to do. --Tenebrae (talk) 20:06, 10 May 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you to the anon IP who did so. --Tenebrae (talk) 23:26, 10 May 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Theatre roles

[edit]

Other than the 4 mentioned (Flytrap and Rent and Misanthrope and Tartuffe) did she do any other roles, even minor ones that didn't get much publicity? Curious everything she did if there is a list and maybe video of it, but even just knowing which chars in which works would be good. 64.228.89.137 (talk) 04:19, 26 September 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Grace's married name, Byers

[edit]

Both Grace and Trai have referred to themselves as Mr. and Mrs. Byers in their wedding announcement. Unless we have to go digging for a wedding license, we should take that at face value. If Grace is calling herself Mrs. Byers, then Byers should be in her bio.131.118.229.3 (talk) 17:25, 19 April 2016 (UTC)[reply]

People call themselves "Mr. & Mrs. such-and-such" colloquially without having formally changed any names. That's exactly what the mentions on social media sound like, and it's patriarchal to assume a woman has formally changed her last name without something better than an assumption.--Tenebrae (talk) 13:47, 20 April 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Well guess what, this isn't even about "patriarchy" this is about identity, for heaven's sake. She is referring to herself as "Grace Byers"[1] now and I'm just about certain come Empire's return her name will be credited as Grace Byers. Same as Angelina Jolie calling herself Angelina Jolie Pitt, she called herself that in an interview and people went with it. She credited herself as Angelina Jolie Pitt in By the Sea (2015 film) and it's sorted.Trillfendi (talk) 16:41, 22 June 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Well, guess what: There's no reason to be rude and snarky. All anyone had to do was actually supply a reliable-source citation, which no one had ever bothered to do before now. Please read WP:VERIFY and WP:BLP for background on Wikipedia biographical articles, and WP:CIVIL while you're at it. --Tenebrae (talk) 18:04, 22 June 2016 (UTC)[reply]
By all accounts (including her IG and her Twitter), Grace is no longer going by Grace Gealey. Her IG is verified under Grace Byers, and she lost her Twitter check when she changed her name from @gracegealey to @ladygracebyers. So shouldn't Grace Gealey redirect to Grace Byers, not vice-versa? LoomisSimmons (talk) 06:11, 29 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Oh would you look at that... Empire season 3 episode 1 credited her as Grace Byers now. I've been avenged....Trillfendi (talk) 01:20, 22 September 2016 (UTC)[reply]
