I think the story of kempegowda and vokkaligas can come under vakkaliga but its unfair to use the story under gowdas, which is just a name for the head or old person of the family.

Vokkaliga is the second largest community in Karnataka. But it is grouped as a Backward caste under group 3A of reservation category. Please make change —Preceding unsigned comment added by 122.172.16.124 (talk) 05:09, 3 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Gowda is not a common surname or title.Gowda is a surname or title only for vokkaliga community others like kuruba, lingayatsand and yadava were adding Gowda title for their sake..Gowda means Head of village in most of villages vokkaligas only being a Head in the name of Oorgowdaru in karnataka and Nattamaikarar in Tamilnadu.Traditionaly Vokkaligas only using the word gowda(eg..KempeGowda)the leader sangolli rayanna belonged to kuruba caste so that he didnt add the title Gowda,Now a days for a respect other communities were adding Gowda title. So Vokkaligas are the right community for adding the surname "GOWDA"... I dont agree this i think u dont have knowledge of tradition of karnataka GOWDA is a surname commanly used by Lingayath in north Karnataka and Vokkaliga and Kurubas in south Karnataka(Eg.Junjegowda who built Malemahadeshwara temple belongs to Kuruba Gowda. He is not belongs to recent generation) — Preceding unsigned comment added by Sathyaprasanna (talkcontribs) 07:21, 31 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]
