Deletion
[edit]I deleted:
- 1536 - 1551 Peder Hansen Litle
- 1551 - 1556 Jesper Friis and
- 1556 - 1572 Christiern Munk.
NO references could be found supporting their holding that role. Numerous references indicate otherwise. Further, the Norwegian interwiki shows Povel Huitfeldt as first — yes I know interwiki is not a references — but it is a pretty good clue as to where to look.
I'd support a referenced restoration, but will be impressed if you find one.

- Found a reference which identifies these additional governors. But they seem to have no mention in any of the standard texts. Any insight would be appreciated. Skål - Williamborg (Bill) 05:02, 13 April 2009 (UTC)
Move proposed
[edit]I propose moving the article titled Governor-general of Norway to Statholder of Norway or, if that is objectionable, to Governor General of Norway. The basis for this move is that there is published material showing three terms: ”Statholder”, “Viceroy” or “Governor General”, are accepted English terms in academic references, while "Governor-general of Norway" appears nowhere in English language print. Viceroy is a generic term, hardly specific to Norway, and should not be used. ”Statholder” is specific to Norway, risking no ambiguity. A survey of usages follows:
- Governor General – Jesperson, Leon (Ed.) (2000). A Revolution from Above? The Power State of 16th and 17th Century Scandinavia. Odense University Press. 87-7838-407-9.
- Statholder (viceroy) – Gjerset, Knut (1915). History of the Norwegian People, Volumes I & II. The MacMillan Company.
- Statholder – Larson, Karen (1948). A History of Norway. Princeton University Press. ISBN none.
- Statholder – Derry, T.K. (1960). A Short History of Norway. George Allen & Unwin. ISBN none.
- Stattholder – by Stagg: Stagg, Frank Noel (1956). East Norway and its Frontier. George Allen & Unwin, Ltd. ISBN none. – Stagg, Frank Noel (1954). West Norway and its Fjords. George Allen & Unwin, Ltd. ISBN none.– Stagg, Frank Noel (1953). The Heart of Norway. George Allen & Unwin, Ltd. ISBN none.– Stagg, Frank Noel (1958). South Norway. George Allen & Unwin, Ltd. ISBN none.
- Statholder or Viceroy–Barton, Arnold H. (1986). Scandinavia in the Revolutionary Era: 1760 - 1815. University of Minnesota Press. ISBN 0-8166-1393-1.
- Governor – Kent, Neil (2000). The Soul of the North. Reaktion Books, London. ISBN 1-86189-067-2.
I strongly incline toward Statholder of Norway with a link from Statholder since it is widely used in publications and is the term one is most likely to come to Wikipedia to look up. Your counsel and guidance would be appreciated…

- "Governor-General" is used in an official Norwegian source here. But it seems "Stat(t)holder" is the more common term so I agree with your proposal. 96T (talk) 13:20, 14 April 2009 (UTC)
- I've always rather favored official government sources, so find this an interesting argument for Governor-General. I'll wait a few more days to see who else weighs in with insights. Thanks - Williamborg (Bill) 05:18, 15 April 2009 (UTC)
