Why this article now?

[edit]

Some may question what this article is doing here when some states are certainly few counties have an article. A eager member was filling the city article with a lot of trivia that would eventually go into an article like this for government or elections. Rather than delete his material and try to convince him that it was inappropriate it seemed easier to move it to an appropriate article to save time. We will now see whether that works! This information belongs in the Pasadena, Texas article. With the exception of large cities, it is not normal practice for a city to have a "Government of ..." article. If someone is throwing trivia into the other article, remove the information as trivia, or WP:UNDUE etc. I think this needs to be merged back into the parent article. This is way too much detail. Nothing like it anyplace. If it were in the main article, it would have to be deleted as WP:UNDUE I suppose. Nothing wrong with it but detracts from the rest of the article. We see this kind of detail occasionally at the state (province? department?) level. I have never seen this at the city or even county level. Just checked NYC. They did have some description but it didn't seem that distracting from the rest of the (long) article. (Suggestion: Try a city of your choice).
Part of the problem is that the government is not that different from dozens or maybe hundreds of other cities. Since there are several types of municipal government, it might be easier if that could be linked and the differences be described, but even that should be in a separate article IMO.Student7 (talk) 00:52, 8 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Actually, the level of detail currently in this article is perfect for the parent article on the city. See for example the section in the Houston article (which is a featured article). Karanacs (talk) 01:28, 8 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Didn't look at Houston, but you may be right. But the other forked article should stay where it is. Do you want to merge this one back?Student7 (talk) 12:58, 9 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]
