This article has been moved without discussion twice, now. First, on 4 November 2019, from May 2019 Burkina Faso hostage rescue to Burkina Faso hostage rescue because an editor claimed "it only happened once, so no need for year, let alone month, to disambiguate" and then, on 12 September 2024, to Gorom-Gorom rescue operation on the grounds that the title was too vague and "there have been dozens of rescue operations in Burkina." Opinions seem to differ with naming this article, and I have a somewhat different opinion, again. The criteria for naming an article include a recommendation for having consistent titles that are precise, too. The naming convention for events also includes a recommendation that such articles are named "When", "Where" and "What". This was the convention that was followed initially. The omission of the year and month from the title, for disambiguation reasons, does need some additional explanation; Wikipedia doesn't have any other articles about hostage rescues in Burkina Faso where the name of the country appears in the title of the article, so having a year is not necessary to distinguish two articles of the same name, but that is not the sole reason for mentioning a year. Wikipedia does have articles about these activities in other places, such as the 2020 Nigeria hostage rescue, 2014 hostage rescue operations in Yemen and the Sokoto hostage rescue attempt, among others. To me, a year is also needed for being precise about a particular event. Additionally, including the word hostage aids this preciseness, as there can be other types of rescue operations that don't involve hostages, such as people lost on land or at sea. However, the need to say it was also an "operation" or a "mission" is perhaps getting overly precise, especially if one is only talking about a single hostage rescue event. Before I formally request a page move, I would be interested to know if anybody else has thoughts about the best title for this article. - Cameron Dewe (talk) 22:35, 13 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
