- ... that the maritime painter Gordon Ellis had his first commission published when he was just 13 years old? Source: Davidson, Arthur Samuel (1986). Marine Art & Liverpool Painters, Places & Flag Codes, 1760-1960. Waine Research Publications. pp. 120–124. ISBN 0905184106.
Even at this age there was a promise of professional potential when he achieved his first commission with the Liverpool Daily Post.

- Hi ResonantDistortion (talk), review follows: article created 11 May and exceeds minimum length; I added a short lead to prevent the article being tagged (which would disqualify it); hook is interesting, I altered the wording slightly as "published his first commission" didn't read right to me, feel free to amend it; hook is mentioned in the article and cited offline, happy to AGF that the source supports this; article is cited inline throughout; sources used look reliable, I wasn't sure about HMSConway.org but its only used in conjunction with three other references so should be OK; I didn't spot any overly close paraphrasing from the online sources; a QPQ is not required. Looks good to me, nice work! - Dumelow (talk) 07:22, 12 May 2023 (UTC)
- Thank you for the review Dumelow (talk), and for your improvements to the article. I support your edits to the hook - that is a skill I am working on. ResonantDistortion 07:34, 12 May 2023 (UTC)
