References to Pop Culture

[edit]

I need more information about how it spoofs National Treasure, The Da Vinci Code and Ratatouille. I'm only familiar with some of those three.Indianparttime2 (talk) 04:19, 14 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

EDIT: Homer tries to kill some rats in his kitchen. They make him a meal which turns out to be less than spectacular, so he continues to try to kill them.[1] It has elements of Ratatouille.[1]

This doesn't fit right at the beginning of the article. Indianparttime2 (talk) 06:10, 15 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I just put in the stuff from the beginning rigth after I saw the episode, I also added a triva statement too. I can't edit the rest of the article now because I can't remember what else happens in enough detail. Would someone please finish the article? Thanks. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 71.179.116.115 (talk) 00:43, 16 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

39 Clues

[edit]

Am I the only one that took away from this episode a bunch of references to The 39 Clues? KConWiki (talk) 01:02, 16 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Bill O'Reilly

[edit]

The bit where Kent Brockman storms off the set, looks like a reference to bill O'Reilly flip out he did. It even uses the same camera shot at the end. (C_falco (talk) 11:24, 16 March 2009 (UTC))[reply]

River Crossing Riddle

[edit]

Although the puzzle was present in Professor Layton, it's is certainly not unique to the game. I'll remove the entry until further discussion.

Edit: Fox,_goose_and_bag_of_beans_puzzle The riddle has its own entry on wikipedia.

--71.198.89.236 (talk) 20:56, 16 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Although the puzzle has been around for a long time, the way it was presented is a pretty clear reference to Layton: The sudden appearance of Professor Frink, Homer's arm waving when asking for help, Cletus asking for help with another riddle (which also appears in Layton.)Not to mention it makes little sense for both those riddles and Homer asking for help to be in the episode if they weren't a reference. In my opinion it is way too much of a coincidence for it NOT to be a reference and should be included in the article. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 92.11.22.8 (talk) 10:21, 19 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

The Seven Year Itch

[edit]

I think the article should mention the scene where Homer says that the rats in the kitchen reminds him of the movie which he recorded on the movie theatre: "Ratatoey"... 'Cause that's the best joke of the entire first part! When Homer is buying pesticide at "Pest Buy", the store's name is a clear reference to Best Buy. And what about the scene where Lisa is advised by Mother Superior to wear her habit moderately, "unlike Sister Marylin"? And then we see a nun imitating Marylin Monroe's worldwide known scene in Billy Wilder's The Seven Year Itch... That's clearly a pop culture reference, and also a tribute to one of the greatest actresses of all time! Comic Book Guy tells Lisa that his main source on the gem legend is Wikipedia... that's also cool to mention! Tex Avery tribute

[edit]

I think there is a cultural reference missing. Its the Tex avery MGM clip in the hospitalscene with Doctor Hibbert. And i also found a source for it: http://tv.ign.com/articles/962/962786p1.html —Preceding unsigned comment added by 87.213.160.74 (talk) 10:09, 17 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Had something in this version... AnonMoos (talk) 14:51, 17 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Prof. Frink

[edit]

Did Professor Frink die when he swallowed the rat poison? I think he only fainted but I'm not sure. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 70.189.240.135 (talk) 23:58, 17 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I believe he only fainted, as two episodes later (Wedding For Disaster) he's in background just to the right of Kent Brockman in the scene where everyone is waiting for Parson's arrival. Redterror117 (talk) 13:26, 12 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Music

[edit]

Does anyone know which music is played while maggi is sitting on the throne and peace is coming to springfield?

The first piece of music played during lisas arrival is O Fortuna from the Carmina Burana. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 92.76.143.41 (talk) 21:10, 19 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Ratatooey

[edit]

Why they spelled Ratatouille as 'Ratatooey' in the Simpsons when Homer is holding a DVD? Blubbermarble (talk) 18:55, 9 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Probably copyright issues. CTJF83Talk 20:47, 9 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

It's 'cause he's dumb and since he recorded the film himself (illegally, inside the movie theatre, LOL), he can't spell it right... I had the best laugh at the first part with this! The Simpsons writers may not know this, but recording films inside movie theatres is very common in Brazil. Rodrigogomesonetwo – 14:46, July 14, 2009.

At the time of the movie's release, the advertising campaign that I saw had that (or a similar) spelling displayed in parentheses, presumably for the benefit of people that went through the U.S. education system and would otherwise not know how to pronounce it. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 68.183.205.212 (talk) 02:05, 12 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Anagram

[edit]

When the nun corrects the anagram, she links the letters from Lisa's solution to prove that the anagram is correct, except that one of the 'S's remains unlinked when it should have been linked to the 'S' of Sherlock. Presumably this was an oversight. --82.9.77.127 (talk) 23:13, 27 September 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Gone Daddy Gone

[edit]

I believe the episode title is more likely a reference to the Violent Femmes song "Gone Daddy Gone" (later covered by Gnarls Barkley) rather than the film "Gone Baby Gone". 104.201.113.70 (talk) 12:08, 10 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
