Aggie Spirit - a bit intangible, but do-ableBus driver- this should be in the yellsThe chickenAggie code of honor- East gate
Farmers fight- should be in the Yells- First Yell
From the outside you can't understand it, from the inside you can't explain it.Former studentHissingHorse Laugh - maybe this should just go into the yells...then again, I've used it in class too...Maroon out- Mug-down
Muster- off the wood
the other educationPattonNothing about Patton is related directly to A&M...certainly not any specific termsRaggiesReed Rowdies- Reload
- Return with honor - what the **** is this?
- Obviously not that important. I thought the phrase being inscribed on the arches of the quad would make it mean something to you corps members. brainstorming goes you good stuff, and it gives you bad stuff. But it is the best way i know how to get new ideas. Oldag07 02:30, 24 September 2007 (UTC)

Sections
We could almost divide this page into several sections:
- General Terminology
- Sports
- Traditions
- Campus landmarks
What do y'all think? Oldag07 02:32, 24 September 2007 (UTC)
- We could, but I think it would just be better to list is alphabetically. Otherwise, you can't use them in multiple articles that aren't exactly related (such as t.u. in Aggie Bonfire and the Lone Star showdown). I say leave it as-is. Good ideas all around though. — BQZip01 — talk 03:57, 24 September 2007 (UTC)
Proposed term removals
In response to the comments that some of this article is "cruft", I think it might be wise for us to take a closer look at the list and see if there are any terms that are not really needed (i.e., not used in articles, won't be heard of much off campus). I think we could probably remove the following, but I won't actually remove any until I've heard from you guys.
- "Aggies never lose, though we may run out of time
- Batt
- Aggie Code of Honor
- Farmer's fight
- Fish
- "From the outside looking in..."
- Highway 6 runs both ways
- RAggies (if non-Aggie sources can be found for the tradition part, this should go on traditions page)
- I thought i linked on a sports illustrated article Oldag07 (talk) 02:44, 5 February 2008 (UTC)
- Saw Varsity's Horns Off
Karanacs (talk) 16:58, 4 February 2008 (UTC)
- "Aggies never lose, though we may run out of time
- Don't really care one way or the other
- Batt
- Keep common nickname for a notable paper
- Aggie Code of Honor
- Good to have as a reference (I intend to use it in the Corps article)
- Farmer's fight
- Maybe as part of the yells
- Fish
- Keep: unique usage of a well-known term
- "From the outside looking in..."
- Couldn't care less one way or the other
- Highway 6 runs both ways
- Couldn't care less one way or the other
- RAggies (if non-Aggie sources can be found for the tradition part, this should go on traditions page)
- Couldn't care less one way or the other
- Saw Varsity's Horns Off
- Absolutely keep: mentioned at almost every A&M home game by the announcers and by letters from visitors. A strong impact seen around the world
- — BQZip01 — talk 00:45, 5 February 2008 (UTC)
- Is "fish" really that unique to A&M? A lot of schools call their freshmen fish. Karanacs (talk) 17:38, 5 February 2008 (UTC)
I say we divide the list into sections. Athletics, Yells, Campus, Unique phrases, Bonfire, General Traditions. It is messy, but we have 85 terms on this page.
I do say we trim most of the terms here limiting most to one sentence at max. I say we can remove Mascot corporal. it is too specific. unless you want a corps of cadets section too, with is great. the frozen lake dissertation has lots of good corps of cadets words. if this does become a list, we should nominate this page for Featured List status.Oldag07 (talk) 02:44, 5 February 2008 (UTC)
Proposed structural changes to page: User:Oldag07/Sandbox Oldag07 (talk) 03:34, 5 February 2008 (UTC)
- Mascot corporal is already discussed in the Reveille article, so it could be removed here without any issues. I don't think we should change the structure. People who are not familiar with Texas A&M will probably not be able to find the word they are looking for easily, and some terms could fit into multiple categories. Karanacs (talk) 17:38, 5 February 2008 (UTC)
- From one point of view i understand what you are talking about Karanacs. If i new the term i was looking for, than the alphabetical hierarchy would make sense. However, if i knew nothing about A&M, than a more categorical hierarchy would make more sense. I personally believe that latter would make more sense. as for words that have multiple categories. of course as for actual categories, that would be difficult, but with some guidelines, it shouldn't be impossible.

We should trim each entry to 1-2 sentences max. it should reduce the idea that this is a bunch of random facts rather than a quick reference. Oldag07 (talk) 05:16, 6 February 2008 (UTC)

FA nomination
Bad news, this article failed nomination. Negatives, we did not make it, positives, this article greatly improved. I need a huge break from wikipedia, as shown on my profile, but maybe a GA push would be more appropriate a few months from now. I think the article could pass now honestly, if someone wants to do that. Oldag07 (talk) 01:53, 6 March 2008 (UTC)

The image Image:Sul Ross Statue.JPG is used in this article under a claim of fair use, but it does not have an adequate explanation for why it meets the requirements for such images when used here. Why is there no mention of squeezing 'em or the jizz jar? JCDenton2052 (talk) 05:15, 2 December 2008 (UTC)
- Probably due to a lack of reliable sources. Also, I removed the "13th man" part because you did not include a reliable source (as defined in WP:RS) to verify your claims. BlueAg09 (Talk) 06:08, 2 December 2008 (UTC)
Wrecking crew
I can understand why we would like to call our WC the former name of our defense. Many of the coaches and the fans refuse to call what we had this year that esteemed name. However, TAMU still owns a trademark on the term "wrecking crew". http://www.tamu.edu/trademarks/amtrademark.html Wikipedia admittedly isn't TAMU's legal department, but using the term "former" might weaken TAMU's hold on the trademark. Moreover, NONE of the sources explicitly states that TAMU has given up on the name. Moreover, the term WC, might not describe today's defense, but it is something that the team aspires to "earn back" (admittedly this is from darnell). On top of that, saying former, i think takes a POV, while wikipedia should remain neutral. http://www.realfootball365.com/articles/texasam/8829 a compromise paragraph could be:
- Wrecking Crew
- name given to defenses of the football team.[1][2][3] The term, coined by defensive back Chet Brooks, became popular during the R.C. Slocum's tenure in 80s and the 90s. After the coach's firing, many fans, coaches, and sports analysts feel that recent Aggie defenses have not "earned" the title.</ref name="Blackshirts_WC">[4] Despite this, the university still owns a trademark on the term,[5] and in 2008 The Bleacher Report ranked the nickname the 11th greatest college football nickname of all time.[2]

Quack Shack
I removed the Quack shack section.
- Quack Shack: A quasi-affectionate term for the A.P. Beutel Health Center.
- Because I personally have never heard of Beutel called that way,
- The statement is unsourced
- it doesn't seem like a very original statement. It would seem that several other schools "affectionately" call their health centers, the "quack shack"

Texags
I am adding TexAgs as a Aggie term. I think there has been enough press coverage on the site to overcome WP:SPAM. Oldag07 (talk) 21:14, 19 March 2012 (UTC)
- I know some people might find it controversial, but the site is quite well known and very influential amongst the Aggie community. It may seem like an advertisement, but the site has its own article that has successfully fended off an Afd nominiation. I think that is reason enough to put it up on this page. Oldag07 (talk) 21:36, 19 March 2012 (UTC)
- Seems notable to me, but I'm open to other opinions. Buffs (talk) 04:06, 20 March 2012 (UTC)
Aggy
I was thinking about adding the derogatory term "aggy" to this page. It isn't strong outside of message boards, but I have found a use for it on a publication. http://bleacherreport.com/articles/404755-so-texas-am-wants-the-sec-so-long-aggy-nice-knowing-you-i-guess Oldag07 (talk) 03:22, 15 November 2012 (UTC)
- Not so much of an issue. I really don't see much of a reason to include it. Buffs (talk) 03:45, 15 November 2012 (UTC)
Add term Fable to glossary
Fable
noun - legendary narrative of comedy or supernatural happenings effected by an Aggie with unique Promethean consequences, intended to enforce a useful truth about that Aggie
Fable
verb - to tell Aggie fables, call from crowd inspiriting leader to tell Aggie fables

I am just not too sure about the new "dirty sock" word. I don't like it but it is sourced. I never heard of the place until it was posted up here. The chicken is a private establishment, so I guess there is president for something like that. Of course the chicken is more well known. What do you think about removing that. Oldag07 (talk)
Howdy, kindly take credit for adding the cite. I misunderstood the cite concept, as I had seen that cite; however, I thought the cite needed to be specific to definition of the term being added. Next time I shall include cite. Gig 'emGROAD '71 (talk) 06:57, 21 December 2013 (UTC)
Dirty Sock
I removed the Dirty Sock. I feel that it is a term related to College Station and not A&M per se. Obviously, some people will argue, if we remove the Dirty Sock, we should remove the Chicken. I believe we should keep the The Chicken. That bar has been intertwined with A&M related stuff for quite sometime. The two A&M songs, "Fightin' Texas Aggie" and "We Bleed Maroon" mention "The Chicken". Moreover, more prestigious sources like ESPN mention A&M with the Dixie Chicken. The only sources that mention the "Dirty Sock" are www.complex.com and outkickthecoverage.com.
- Dirty Sock
- Common nickname by students to refer to the "Silk Stocking" strip club. The only strip club in College Station.[6][7]
Oops, forgot to sign. Oldag07 (talk) 21:42, 29 December 2013 (UTC)

Johnny football
I added the term Johnny Football to the list. I can see why some people don't like it. But considering how famous the guy is, and how well known the term is internationally compared to most of the terms on this page, it would make sense for him to be on this page. Remove it if you don't like it, but please add an explanation here. Oldag07 (talk) 18:53, 11 January 2015 (UTC)

Cougar High
"Cougar High" doesn't seem to be an Aggie exclusive insult to UH. if you can find a source that states its significant otherwise feel free to add it back. I did find this article that uses the term "Cougar High" without mentioning A&M at all. https://www.texasmonthly.com/articles/cougar-high-is-now-about-the-university-of-houstons-bcs-ranking/ Oldag07 (talk) 12:40, 4 March 2019 (UTC)
