Center Logos Not Official

[edit]

Since early 2000, NASA Centers have not had any official logo to represent them other than the use of the NASA meatball per several memos from NASA HQ. (see http://www.nasawatch.com/worm/05.31.00.ulrich.html for one example). Since the logos are no official and not in use on anything publically sent out from NASA, why are they in use on Wikipedia? jtowns 04:48, 21 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Visitor Center Closed

[edit]

The visitor center at the NASA Glenn facility will be closing in September 2009. They are trying to move some of the displays to the Great Lakes Science Center, in downtown Cleveland, however that is uncertain at this time. I will be making mention of this on the main page. "(see #History for previous names)"

[edit]

In the header: NASA John H. Glenn Research Center at Lewis Field (see #History for previous names) is a NASA center

Is the "(see #History for previous names)" necessary? It ruins the flow of the opening section and doesn't seem like it needs to be there. I'll remove it the next time I remember.

Plum Brook status unclear

[edit]

Article seems unclear about Plum Brook. It lists off some facilities located there but says some are partially open. What is the state of the facilities there as of 2018? ++Lar: t/c 13:07, 18 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]

[1] suggests that at least the Space Environments Complex and In-Space Propulsion Facility are operational, as of August 2018. TJRC (talk) 23:37, 18 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]
And Science in Flux: NASA's Nuclear Program at Plum Brook Station 1955-2005 details the history of the Plum Brook Reactor; the decommisioning and demolition is detailed in Chapter 7, "Restoring the Garden"" TJRC (talk) 23:50, 18 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Going through the list:
  • B-2 Spacecraft Propulsion Research Facility: see comment about "In-Space Propulsion Facility" above;
  • Combined Effects Chamber: Seems to be operational; see [2];
  • Cryogenic Components Laboratory: [3] lists a contact for it as of March 28, 2018; that kind of suggests it's still around, but does not directly contradict the "slated for demolition" currently in the article;
  • Hypersonic Test Facility: this article suggests it was still operational as of January 2018.
  • Space Power Facility: See [4]; apparently still operational as of July 2018;
  • Plum Brook Reactor: see comment above; also the book NASA’s Nuclear Frontier: The Plum Brook Reactor Facility, 1941—2002 may be of interest.
TJRC (talk) 00:06, 19 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks! Is that worth editing into the article? Seems sound to me. ++Lar: t/c 19:26, 23 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]
