From 1859 onwards formed Giovanni Stucky in Vienna and in Switzerland on, in 1865 he ran in Mogliano (Veneto) own mill, which he modernized by Hungarian models. In 1867 the successful young entrepreneur married Antonietta from Kupferschein. From 1867 to 1880, Giovanni Stucky's company expanded. Stucky leased six mills in the area of Treviso, imported Russian grain and exported flour and pasta.
From 1880 Giovanni Stucky was again based in Venice and settled there in 1884 by the architect Ernst Wullekopf a large industrial mill on the Giudecca build. The historicist building complex in the style of brick Gothic was expanded several times and accepted after initial rejection as an industrial landmark. The as Molino Stucky known building is now used after decades of vacancy as a hotel.
1908 acquired Giovanni Stucky the Palazzo Grassi, which by his son Giancarlo Stucky had to be abandoned in the train of the decline of the company.
On May 21, 1910, Giovanni Stucky was murdered with a razor by the mentally disturbed 35-year-old Giovanni Bruniera in the station of the Venice train station. Bruniera, who had temporarily worked in Stucky's company, had already spent 18 months in prison for threats against the Stucky family. In 1900, Giovanni Stucky was the richest man in Venice. The imposing blonde Patriarch of unusual height entered as a benefactor and patron of the Biennale d'Arte forth, led the honorary title of Cavaliere and received shortly before his death a gold medal for special merits.
