Background

[edit]

The claim that "despite Lavaggi being a nobleman by background, he couldn’t count on personal financial resources; therefore he started racing only at the age of 26" is sourced to an Italian-language article that I can't read, so I'd like to know whether the source confirms that he couldn't count on personal financial resources, or only that he started racing at 26. The claim that he wasn't independetly wealthy sounds odd, given that in Formula One, Lavaggi is widely regarded as a pay driver who earned his seat with cash rather than driving ability. In general, it sounds like the article is trying to sugarcoat his F1 career ("Nevertheless, even with no previous experience and no tests (his teams had not enough money to perform private tests) he was always close to the performance of his teammates"), which, in the light of statistics, was rather unimpressive.
