The "Amburgo" question

Hello Xyl, I was wondering what "Amburgo" means myself. My personal theory is that it refers to the city of Hamburg, one of the most important coastal cities in north Germany. 1. In Spanish, the H is silent, and not pronounced in a word like Hamburg 2. In Spanish, the city is called "Hamburgo", with the added O at the end.

A possible spelling mistake by a Spanish-speaking contributor? It's possible, but as I said, this is only a theory. However, the article states it was in Rotterdam first, and then in "Amburgo", which would make sense, geographically speaking.

However, since I don't quite know if I am correct, I'm not going to edit this, just in case it turns out there's another coastal city somewhere called Amburgo. Neoncitylights 02:52, 30 June 2007 (UTC)

Schiff 5 II

The source was Schmalenbach's book, but your right, Pinguin was HSK 5, Schiff 33; I hadn't noticed that. I can check the book, it's in our library, unless you have access to one as well. Xyl 54 (talk) 16:54, 20 February 2008 (UTC)

This is more confusing now;

Schmalenbach states that Hansa never served as a HSK (p24), but later lists her in the table (p49) as being HSK 5, and un-named, with no Ship number, which seems a bit strange.

The caption for the photograph (p44) gives the title HSK 5(II), and makes the reference to Pinguin.

This article originally said:

"The ship was also known also as the HSK 3 (Hilfskreuzer XI - auxiliary cruiser 11), Schiff 5 and with the coded name N/A."

So maybe that’s where I’m getting Schiff 5 from.

My father was on that ship. It was never called HSK 5. It was "Schiff 5" called. Pinguin was Schiff 33, HSK 5. She was one of the last ships which left Hela. Siegfried Lenz was one of the cadets. Greetings from Germany H. Fahrenkrog--87.184.170.87 (talk) 19:40, 12 August 2009 (UTC)
