Renaming back to Koolie
[edit]The name of this article is inaccurate. The country of origin of the Koolie breed calls them "Koolie" or "Coolie" - not "German Coolie" see http://www.australian-koolies.info/ (more specifically http://www.australian-koolies.info/Whats%20in%20a%20name.htm), http://www.justusdogs.com.au/flex/koolie_dog/452/1, http://www.burkesbackyard.com.au/2000/archives/2000/roadtests/dog_breeds?p=1603, http://www.mypets.net.au/flex/koolie_dog/452/1, http://www.dogbreedinfo.com/koolie.htm. The older Koolie page at http://wiki.riteme.site/w/index.php?title=Koolie&oldid=142977734 sports references whilst this current "German Coolie" page does not.
I would recommend that the name of the article be changed back to "Koolie" as it is neutral, and have reference to the "German Coolie" and "German Koolie" naming variants and the arguments therein.

Merge?
[edit]Yes, seems to me that this was created by folks who didn't realize there was an article at Koolie.
I vote merge, if we can maintain civility. 02:18, 1 September 2006 (UTC)
- Please be kind enough to indent using colons so that comments can be read more easily. I do not read anything in this article that indicates that this is a different dog breed. If differing factions/differences in philosphy/whatever, surely one article with explanations would suffice?

- It would be greatly appeciated if this article could remain as it is, there are two complete different ideas on the types of dogs and the future for the breed we like to call the Coolie and I think it is important for readers to be able to make their own decisions. As said earlier I am sure the KCA and original posters of the Koolie page would not want it merged - this page was created because of the animoisty and carrying on on the Koolie page." Thank you
- This page was created originaly by people declaring their breed was a "German Coolie", which was fairly distinctive from the "Koolie", but at some time the page was change to "Coolie" creating a grey area. I would think considering the extreme differences of opion that infact this page should be returned to German Coolie as just those posting in this discussion are still quite argumentative indicating the disagreements prior will only continue meaning the real information will suffer and degenerateCeasia 13:12, 7 September 2006 (UTC)
- The German Coolie and the Australian Koolie are two separate breeds and should not be considered or confused as the same. It's not a matter of one breed being known by two different names, these dogs are separate breeds. The German Coolie is the original breed that has been cared for and protected for many years by stockmen and lovers of the breed. The Australian Koolie is a newly created breed made up of many different breeds where some of the breeds are known and some are not. It would be a travasty to confuse the two.
There appears to be many things that aren't going right between these articles. No one owns an article, if someone doesn't want their work butchered, they shouldn't write anything here, and there seems to be a large amount of POV pushing going on. While I've only had a brief time to look at what's going on here, I think there needs to be a mediator to come in and work towards a proper solution to this. The Koolie page even has the same alternate names of the dog. I'd say merge unless each article can be made more distinct. Radagast83 03:13, 17 November 2006 (UTC)
- The Australian Koolie shouldn't even be called a breed, because those dogs have only been in existence since 2000. The German Coolie has been in existence since the 1800's. The Australian Koolie dogs are made up of various dog breeds, from unknown lineage and unknown history. Any merle colored dog was adopted from the pound, or stray taken off the street and registered with the Koolie Club of Australia as an Australian Koolie. They openly admit they register ANY dog adopted from the pound, or found stray on the street. The KCA uses "also known as German Coolie" to defraud the public into thinking the dogs that they have registered from the pound, stray, and unknown lineage are in fact authentic German Coolies, when in fact they are not. I say DO NOT merge the two articles, because the German Coolie is certainly NOT an Australian Koolie. 02 January 2007
Merge I arrived at this discussion while clearing WP:BACK.
- The Stock dog rules of the Australian Sheppard Club of America include the following entry:
- Breed: German Coolie/Koolie Origin: Australia (eff 6/1/06)
- Therefore it is clear, the official name in German Coolie and they are one and the same. If some people have veered from the stock breed, that doesn't mean these articles do not belong merged. I propose we begin the merge process immediately. Alan.ca 11:27, 3 July 2007 (UTC)
Merge - The Australian Koolie page seems to be based on and ruled by the Australian Koolie club. If the article can't be edited by anyone not in the club then it honestly doesn't even belong on Wikipedia. They do have their own webpage. JohnnyMrNinja 07:20, 6 July 2007 (UTC)
Merge Completed from Koolie
[edit]I just placed the redirect on the Koolie article. As the articles are containing unverified facts I didn't transfer much of the Koolie article into this one. If anyone with more knowledge of the subject wishes to use the Koolie article as reference it is available here Alan.ca 11:06, 7 July 2007 (UTC)
::This remark was removed as unhelpful and no contribution what so ever, the Koolie club do not claim ownership over this page, the Koolie breed or any ones right to an opinion but we do expect some prior knowledge/experience if you intend to completly remove the contents of a viable page of information.Tjukurpa (talk) 10:02, 19 January 2008 (UTC)
- remarks removed as it was not helpful, did not hold any valid or truthful information and there was absolutely no contribution whatsoever.
The comment about Canada was removed as it was a unprovoqued attack. There is no need to attack people for no reason. Research and knowledge is readily available to anyone anywhere now. It seems to me that by renaming the breed from German Coolie to Australian Koolie and by numerous comments about the "inneptitude" of others involved in this breed in other countries that this is not about a name or a breeder in particular but more about the Australian club not wanting to "share" this breed with the rest of the world. I am sure that most breeds incountered such troubles when first exporting so I extend support to those expanding the borders of this beautiful breed and remind them that other breeds surpassed these issues and so will you. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 204.244.178.254 (talk) 21:05, 25 January 2008 (UTC)
