Service during the American Revolution
[edit]His time in America should be in this article.[1]. An American researcher tells me that "at Yorktown in August 1781 Lt. Col Gerard Lake (1st Gds) was commanding the Grenadier Company". This is confirmed in the DNB [2]Anne (talk) 11:19, 23 June 2021 (UTC)

I'm not sure how to add references for this, so I won't try and do this myself yet. But I understand Lake was responsible for committing war crimes in India. This is touched on by the historian Paul Fregosi, in his book 'Dreams of Empire'. No mention of these crimes in this wikipedia article. Could be worth someone having a look at this... —Preceding unsigned comment added by 207.138.98.253 (talk) 16:24, 15 December 2008 (UTC)
For all of Gerard Lake's faults (and they were many) the charge of war crimes in India seems unlikely and out of character. All of the contemporary sources make great play of his fundamental honour and decency, while, by contrast, Fregosi's book is widely reviewed as being biased (with its barbs about Reagan and Thatcher) and of questionable rigour. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 84.64.106.178 (talk) 00:53, 30 May 2009 (UTC)
