Possible source for some of history
[edit]The section titled Scientific discoveries was in the article on Aurel Babeş. However since it seemed to have nothing to do with Babeş, and a lot to with Papanikolaou I moved it here. Another portion of the material there cited this source.

Date and place of death?
[edit]The Greek-language version of the page has his death 10 days earlier, in Miami. Which, if either, is correct about the date? Which, if either, is correct about the location? «Charles A. L.» wuz here–♥ 07:55, 22 January 2015 (UTC)
- I've added two newspaper clippings as sources for the death date. Doremo (talk) 08:40, 22 January 2015 (UTC)
"together with Herbert Frederick Traut (1894–1963)" [F. Traut]
When creating a link to the wiki page for Herbert F. Traut (de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Herbert_F._Traut) it says the page does not exist, which is wrong. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 196.3.50.251 (talk) 11:27, 12 October 2015 (UTC)

The spelling of his name is GEORGE PAPANICOLAOU. Although it may be spelled with a kappa in Greek, he published his work using this spelling. Numerous charities and professional associations in his honor also use this spelling. I am a Hellene and can sympathize generally with using k instead of c for English spelling, but it is inaccurate in this case. |

In the paragraph beginning 'The Romanian physician Aurel Babeş...' every instance of the subject's name is spelt 'Papanicolaou' and this should be changed to 'Papanikolaou' to maintain consistency with the rest of the article. (Happy B-day Georgios) MollyGill (talk) 08:46, 13 May 2019 (UTC)

No bibliography
[edit]I do not have the time at the moment to edit this, but I am noting that it is today's Google Doodle & that there is no bibliography of Papanikolaou's work. The "Most widely held works by George N Papanicolaou" section of "Papanicolaou, George N. 1883-1962 [WorldCat Identities]". would be a good starting point. Peaceray (talk) 16:09, 13 May 2019 (UTC)

Greek or Greek-American?
[edit]So as mentioned in the article, he immigrated to the USA in 1913 and lived there for almost 50 years (49 years) before he died in Miami. Therefore, I would think he had US citizenship, yet he is simply described as Greek instead of Greek-American. Why? Is there a reason for this, or has it just been left out of the article up until now? — Preceding unsigned comment added by TheSameGuy (talk • contribs) 02:26, 14 May 2019 (UTC)
- Papanicolaou's 1973 biography states that he became a naturalized citizen on May 20, 1928. 74.89.238.222 (talk) 03:07, 18 May 2023 (UTC)
Papanicolaou
[edit]George Papanicolaou never (repeat: never) spelled his name "Papanikolaou". This was his preference, this was how he published, this is how his name should be spelled. 74.89.238.222 (talk) 03:05, 18 May 2023 (UTC)
