Film

Hello. I have new elements about the very early films made of The Mikado with (or not with) George Thorne. The first thing for sure is that 3 films (at least) where made but I am not sure George Thorne was featuring in. These were Phonoscènes.

The second thing I've just learnt form Rick Altman's book Silent Film Sound is that competitors to the Gaumont Chronophone system, also made Sound-on-disc films of The Mikado maybe with George Thorne, or not.

Altman, Rick Silent Film Sound, Columbia University Press (2005), p. 163, ISBN 978-0-2311-1662-6 quotation: "Not until 1908 did Cameraphone's general manager Carl Herbert announce that the company was "now producing dramatic acts of a high order," including Quo Vadis?, The Corsican Brothers, Monte Cristo, Othello, H.M.S. Pinaphore, and The Mikado." (Silent Film sound, p.163) (Rick Altman quote the article "Cameraphone Development" published in New York Dramatic Mirror 28 nov. 1908, 10 )
