Hello! I'm David Stevens, son of George Stevens Jr. I'm here because I want to improve my father's Wikipedia page, which currently has lots of information, but hardly any sourcing. I have assembled an entirely new article draft for this page, which cites 56 independent sources and covers these broad areas:
Personal life, including some details about our family
Early career working on films with his father
His work for the United States Information Agency in the 1960s
His founding and development of the American Film Institute
Television specials like the Kennedy Center Honors and Christmas in Washington, which he created and produced
His work as a writer and director in the 80s, 90s, and 00s
Some of the most notable honors he has received and most widely recognized work he has done
Obviously I'm personally close to my father and so I know that I can't make direct edits to his page. I would like to appeal to impartial Wiki editors to take a look at my draft, which I have posted to my user page, and let me know if it's up to Wikipedia's standards, or if it needs work in certain areas. My goal here is not to puff up my father's reputation. I just want him to have a solid Wikipedia page that gives a fact-based overview of his life and career. Any help I can get with that would be immensely appreciated. Thank you! DavidAverellStevens (talk) 18:55, 31 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Hi David. I looked over your draft and I have to say that you have done an excellent job on the article. The language is both professional and neutral in tone, and the references are plentiful and reliable for an encyclopedia (no blogs or random websites). There are no traces of conflict-of-interest as far as I can see, so I don't think anyone would have issues with you replacing the existing article with the improved one. Hey there! I appreciate user:OscarL for reviewing my draft and user:Z1720 for closing the request. Because I'm a family member and have a COI, I'm a bit hesitant about posting the draft myself and would feel more comfortable if another editor were to do it. I don't want someone to breeze through here a few months from now, see that the entire George Stevens Jr. page has been replaced by a draft from his son, and think something fishy is going on. Anyway, I'll stand by and wait for further input. I hope you understand my (perhaps excessive) caution here. Thank you! DavidAverellStevens (talk) 23:09, 5 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]
