George Segal was originally a painter, who later moved into sculpture. He could be regarded as a 20th century genre artist as he creates scenes from everyday life. His works consist of plaster figures posed in an environment of real objects. the figures are cast in plaster bandages and left quite rough. They are ghost-like, almost frozen in time. They are life-sized. The figures are set in an environment. The props are made of junk found in junkyards. The mood is often a feeling of loneliness, isolation and melancholy. Written by Vicki C., Australia (aged 12)

I reverted the article to the previous version, but perhaps some of this can be incorporated into the article in a more encyclopedic fashion. --Andy M. 06:26, 20 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Good photo. But too bad you couldn't get the image of the knife more clearly; it's subsumed into the dark color of the rest of the sculpture from this angle. Badagnani 23:07, 30 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks. For what it's worth, the dark matte color makes the forms pretty indistinct in person, too. But I may try shooting it again at a different angle. -- Rbellin|Talk 03:48, 12 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]
