George Segal was originally a painter, who later moved into sculpture. He could be regarded as a 20th century genre artist as he creates scenes from everyday life. His works consist of plaster figures posed in an environment of real objects. the figures are cast in plaster bandages and left quite rough. They are ghost-like, almost frozen in time. They are life-sized. The figures are set in an environment. The props are made of junk found in junkyards. The mood is often a feeling of loneliness, isolation and melancholy. Good photo. But too bad you couldn't get the image of the knife more clearly; it's subsumed into the dark color of the rest of the sculpture from this angle. Badagnani 23:07, 30 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]
