I just notice that the hook for Template:Did you know nominations/George Luther Kapeau from December, 2012 was changed from "that Hawaiian governor Kapeau's actions toward the Catholic priests of Kailua and King Kamehameha III's refusal to dismiss him was one of ten reasons French Admiral Tromelin invaded Honolulu in 1849?" to "... that after Hawaiian governor Kapeau sent tax assessors in 1849 to the Catholic priests of Kailua, and King Kamehameha III refused to dismiss him, French Admiral Tromelin invaded Honolulu?", which makes absolutely no sense. I'm surprised I didn't catch it until now.--KAVEBEAR (talk) 05:10, 15 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Disputed text

[edit]

Just driving by--in this edit a claim is made that "Kamakau's complaint fell largely on deaf ears, as by the 1850s the House of Nobles consisted mainly of chiefs called Kaukaualiʻi" is verified by Osorio, p. 80. Fortunately Google Books gives us access to that page. I don't see how the text in our article, restored by KAVEBEAR, is verified there. For starters, Kamakau (or a complaint) isn't even mentioned on that page or in the immediately preceding pages; he's mentioned on p. 77, but in a conflict that was apparently resolved and thus did not fall on deaf ears. Second, there is nothing on p. 80 that indicates some kind of cause and effect; I assume this is related to a supposed "diminishing of the chiefly lineages"? Now, I assume also that this can be explained, but if that explanation takes more than a sentence, we're likely dealing with synthesis here. Thank you. Drmies (talk) 14:43, 26 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]

"Maui descent"

[edit]

Could you clarify whether this means the island or the demigod? Awien (talk) 18:50, 18 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]

The island.--KAVEBEAR (talk) 18:51, 18 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks! Also, could you clarify the bit about the smashed porcelain controversy? It seems to be saying the china-smashing resulted from the china-smashing - not clear to me. Awien (talk) 19:11, 18 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]
That's all for a few hours - I'm going to be out. Awien (talk) 19:25, 18 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]
