Yoros vs Georgios
[edit]Maybe this is too pedantic, but the current citation in use spells it "Yoros" and not "Georgios". However, it is being paraphrased from the included video interview and thus could simply be a transliteration error from the editor. So the two options we have here is finding another direct source that uses "Georgios" or come to a consensus that "Yoros" is simply an error. ~ Dissident93 (talk) 10:15, 19 September 2021 (UTC)
- The name is Georgios. Greek names commonly have a short form. The most common short form of Georgios is Yiorgos. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 147.142.190.45 (talk) 17:00, 2 February 2022 (UTC)
- Well can we find a citation that directly spells it that way? ~ Dissident93 (talk) 12:28, 7 February 2022 (UTC)
- I've gone ahead and removed it due to nobody (including myself) finding a better citation that clearly spells it "Georgios". ~ Dissident93 (talk) 10:21, 24 April 2022 (UTC)

Full name in relation to father's name in Greek
[edit]Karlaftis' first name is "George"; there is no "Matthew" in it. "Matthew" was the name of his father. Often, in modern Greek, when presenting a person's name in a somewhat official capacity, the first name of the father is interjected between first name and surname of the son, or the daughter. However, the father's name is always in the genitive case (never in the nominative) and denotes literally "of". Here, the Greek form is "Γιώργος Ματθαίου Καρλαύτης", where "Γιώργος" and "Καρλαύτης" are nominative and "Ματθαίου" genitive. So, the correct translation of that to English is "George Karlaftis of Matthew", i.e. son of Matthew. This form often causes confusion when translating Greek full names. See, for example, the case of composer Vangelis whose father's name, "Odysseas", seems to have surreptitiously slipped the same way into the composer's name. -The Gnome (talk) 20:41, 15 September 2022 (UTC)
Name, revisited
[edit]Greetings, Bill K. Before you repeat the mistaken insertion of the father's name in the player's name, please check out the above notification. You may also want to check out the similar discussion in the talk page of Vangelis. Cheers. -The Gnome (talk) 17:57, 13 October 2022 (UTC)
