Tachtigers

[edit]

The Tachtigers was a literary movement. No doubt it influenced impressionist painters such as Breitner and Israëls but I've never see these painters themselves described as part of the movement. Skirtopodes (talk) 22:43, 11 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]

"Breitner introduced a social realism to the Netherlands that created shock waves similar to that of Courbet and Manet's in France."

[edit]

Originally that was just "realism", which is plainly wrong, and I edited it to "social realism", which would indeed have been his early project. But it does need a cite as it strikes me as a rather exaggerated account of his contribution to the arts. Not really pitching in the same league as Courbet and Manet, surely? Hi, just passing through, but yes, he definitely created shockwaves in the Netherlands. I believe he is considered of that league in the Netherlands.. Jane (talk) 08:31, 8 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]
