Degree
[edit]"...a first class degree in Metaphysics and Rhetoric" - is this actually what it was called? I do hope so... Shimgray | talk | 15:53, 30 August 2008 (UTC)
- yes, actually. It was a well recognised Honours degree, which he scored a first in (hence the first class...). I may need to rephrase that as a "first class Honours degree" to make clear that "first class" was a grading rather than a type of qualification. Ironholds 16:53, 30 August 2008 (UTC)
- Oh, no, I quite get first class degree - it was "Metaphysics and Rhetoric" that amazed me. Finally, I have found a degree topic that sounds more delightfully odd than "Modern Greats"... Shimgray | talk | 16:54, 30 August 2008 (UTC)
- In 1830 I guess uni was a lot different. I'd have killed to study foreign languages in that time period instead of this one; not "today we'll be covering the Vocative case" but more "who cares what language they speak? We're invading next thursday and installing civilization!" Ironholds 17:02, 30 August 2008 (UTC)
