I will take a look at this one, comments to follow in due course. Zawed (talk) 22:17, 2 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Lead

[edit]
  • "undergoing training and experience with the Royal Navy.": I think this reads oddly, undergoing experience. Perhaps replace undergoing with receiving?

Early life

[edit]
  • "so like his father, gay, feckless, fearless and gregarious": shouldn't the reference for this quote immediately follow it?
  • I'm really struggling to parse the sentence that starts "Beginning in January 1930..." since it also ends with the date of his promotion. I suggest breaking the sentence up. Perhaps tie in his promotion to the ship he was serving on at the time (if you can source this). Eg. In May 1930, while serving aboard xxxx, he was promoted to midshipman.

World War II

[edit]
  • "HMIS Hooghly": perhaps needs clarification or a link to make clear that this is a Royal Indian Navy facility. I initially thought the I in the HMIS was a typo. Later I see reference to HMS Braganza in Bombay so the RN obviously also had facilities there.
  • "tether, when"; don't think that comma is necessary.
  • "Gosse was releasing his tether, when there was a small explosion." To think he went and defused two more mines in the following few days. Phew! That's ballsy

Later life

[edit]
  • No issues spotted.

Other stuff

[edit]
  • No dupe links
  • No dablinks
  • External links checks out OK
  • Image tags appear OK, but I'm not an expert in these. I think you may need a US tag on the defusing mine image if you take this to A-Class.

Looks good with few issues here, will check back in a few days. Zawed (talk) 10:27, 6 June 2019 (UTC) G'day Zawed, all done. Here are my edits. I think I'm ok with the IWM pic as UK Crown copyright expiry applies worldwide, but I'll check with Nikkimaria. Peacemaker67 (click to talk to me) 06:42, 7 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]

The IWM image is fine, but the other two aren't - the cross needs an explicit tag for the original design, and the portrait needs information on first publication since the current US tag relies on it being published outside the US by a certain date. Thanks Nikkimaria. Have changed the AWM one in the infobox to AustraliaGov, but am wondering about the GC. It was designed by Percy Metcalfe (1895–1970) for the British Government, so I think that PD-UKGov is the best tag, given it was gazetted on 31 January 1941. Thoughts? Seems reasonable. Nikkimaria (talk) 20:13, 8 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]

This looks all good to go now. I consider the article is well written, covers the subject to a reasonable level with sourcing, and is appropriately illustrated. Passing as GA. Zawed (talk) 22:16, 8 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]
