POV?

[edit]

"..he was successful in reconciling the Maoris to the British rule.." One Maori warrior was the equal of three or four British soldiers. Maori were also superior tacticians. The Maori were "reconciled to British rule" by being opposed by a force hugely superior in numbers, supported by an empire which fed, housed, armed, and clothed them, and supported their distant families without regard to short-term economic factors. The Maori, on the other hand, supported themselves and their families at the same time as waging war. In addition, the Maori were decimated by European diseases. See New Zealand land wars. That line (and much of the article) comes from the 1911 Encyclopaedia, complete with the biases of that time. Please update it if you have a more neutral view. --ScottDavis 4 July 2005 13:47 (UTC)

Ranks of Governor and Governor-General

[edit]

I have corrected the titles for Sir George Ferguson. Governor has a capital 'G' because it is the title given to a person who governs a State or Province, and therefore a capital 'G' is appropriate. A Governor-General is different to a Governor - where a Governor governs a State or Province, a Governor-General governs a country, and therefore I have also corrected this to give Sir George Ferguson his correct title as Governor-General.
