No known photograph
[edit]Certain editors seem determined to remove the image of a Victoria Cross from this page. There is no known photograph of George Bell Chicken. A large number of VC recipients with no known photograph have a Victoria Cross displayed on their page instead. Why is this page being singled out? Exemplo347 (talk) 15:38, 22 May 2016 (UTC)
- There is no justifiable reason to have an image of the VC in the infobox. Sure, if you feel strongly enough, put an image somewhere in the article. But the infobox is not appropriate, as it is about the individual specifically and not the medal. An argument of WP:OTHERSTUFFEXISTS does not hold weight in this context, and this article is not being singled out (see my edit history). Abraham, B.S. (talk) 15:46, 22 May 2016 (UTC)
A convention is clearly in place in Wikipedia that allows using an image of the VC in place of a photograph where no photograph of the recipients exists. Please seek advice from an Administrator because there are countless articles that use the VC in an infobox.

I could go on listing pages all day. Removal of the VC image from this page will be reported as vandalism - the reason you have given is not justified. Multiple biographical pages exist where no known photograph of the subject has been found. There is no rule in place that states the infobox image in a biographical entry must be an image of the intended subject. Exemplo347 (talk) 16:01, 22 May 2016 (UTC)
- With respect, I would suggest that you further acquaint yourself with how Wikipedia works and its policies. I would particularly recommend looking at WP:AFG before accusing other editors of vandalism. As to the issue at hand, as noted on the template pages, the infobox should display "an image of the person" and if "no image is available yet, do not use an image placeholder." There is not justifiable reason to place an image of the VC in the infobox – one expects to see a person, not a medal. It may be appropriate, instead, to place such an image further down the article (which I did, as a compromise). Further, a lengthy list of VC recipient articles can easily be listed, like that above, which do not display the VC in the infobox. I would also point out that all of the articles listed above are on the lower end of the quality scale (mostly stubs and starts). I am not aware of a single article above B-class status that has the VC in the infobox (see, for example, Tom Derrick, Frank McNamara (VC), Issy Smith, Frederick Birks and Francis Harvey, among others). My personal view is that quality and information are more important, and the VC in the infobox is a little misleading. Cheers, Abraham, B.S. (talk) 04:34, 26 May 2016 (UTC)
Please note that this is not about personal views - it is about the content of the article. If you cannot provide a link to a formal Wikipedia policy that prevents inclusion of images of awards in Infoboxes then I will revert the article and I would request that you please do not keep removing the image.
