Genealogical research

[edit]

Assuming that he was at least eighteen when he played for PNE in 1932, I searched on FreeBMD for any birth records in Lancashire between 1890 and 1914. I found the following three -

1904 in Preston district (mother's maiden name unknown, FreeBMD doesn't show it before 1911) - this George appears to have died in infancy

1912 in Preston district mother's maiden name Hoole

1914 in Preston district mother's maiden name Sumner

In the 1939 England and Wales Register, the 1912 GA (born 27th August) is living with his parents in Preston as a journeyman compositor. The 1914 GA (born 6th April) is living with his wife in Preston and working as a assistant power loom overlooker. Many footballers at this time had full time jobs elsewhere.

Going back to FreeBMD, I found a death record from 1976 for the 1912 GA although it gives his birth date as the 26th.

I assume that one of these is the same as the George Akers in the article. Skycloud86 (talk) 14:06, 2 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]
