Additional Topics

[edit]

I am planning on preparing some revisions of this page. I would like to incorporate some new sections especially within the Environmental Remediation (see below) and change the header from general Topics to more specific areas of research within Geomicrobiology. I would keep all sections they just might slightly get rearranged.

  • Environmental Remediation
    • Microbial remediation - mostly focused on how microbes can impact the toxicity, mobility and precipitation of many metals in soil and sediment environments
    • Acid Mine Drainage - role of sulfate reducing bacteria in removing heavy metals and reducing acidity.

I also plan to provide a references to fill in the 'citation needed' sections within the rest of the Geomicrobiology page. I am working on revisions at this link if you would like to check on the progress User:Maryland72/sandbox. If there are any comments or feedback on these additions I would be happy to hear them. I plan to add the sections within a week. (Maryland72 (talk) 18:53, 26 July 2017 (UTC))[reply]

A well in Idaho injects a mixture of sodium lactate and whey powder for microorganisms in a bio-remediation process.

Page reorganisation

[edit]

I'm planning on reorganising and improving this page so that it would be in following order: 1) definition, 2) introduction, the relationship of microbes and geology on Earth throughout it's history (Early Earth and introduction of mineral evolution hand in hand with origin and evolution of life 3) biomineralization and weathering 4) geomicrobiology applications which would include the current sections on bioremediation and AMD and 5) astrobiology, extreme environments today etc. Lotukka (talk) 10:48, 2 October 2019 (UTC) Also found out this helpful article on MicrobeWiki: https://microbewiki.kenyon.edu/index.php/Geomicrobiology Lotukka (talk) 11:47, 2 October 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Sounds great. Good luck! RockMagnetist (DCO visiting scholar) (talk) 15:53, 2 October 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Needs Updating

[edit]

The article ought to include reference to some recent deep-subsurface findings, such as those mentioned in this NYT article, and papers like these:

https://scholar.google.co.uk/citations?user=z1eLutEAAAAJ&hl=en

https://scholar.google.com/scholar?as_ylo=2020&q=scholarly+articles+geomicrobiology&hl=en&as_sdt=0,39&as_vis=1

https://www.frontiersin.org/journals/microbiology/articles/10.3389/fmicb.2021.785743/full

There are also implications for astrobiology that should be included here.

I don't have time or expertise to do what might involve a massive overhaul of the article, so I'm planting this seed in hopes that someone's paying attention that can do some updating. JD Sti11w4ter (talk) 14:32, 2 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
