In my experience, total area figures can often be hard to pin down. Tajikistan's total area is 143,100 sq km in several sources (now cited in the infobox on the Tajikistan page) and 144,100 sq km in the CIA Factbook [1]. The 144,100 figure seems similar to the area of Tajikistan before treaties with China (see China-Tajikistan border), but I can't be sure.
