As a newcomer to Wikipedia who has to start somewhere I was surprised at the speed of the initial edit of this page and the header. Firstly I should say that I’m not related to the subject matter but am in the process of doing some research into air racing in the UK and perhaps updating their information within Wikipedia. I had to start somewhere and Geoffrey Boot seemed a good subject matter.
I started the article with a narrative based on an article in the Isle of Man Examiner ‘2006 Air Race Aims for Voters’ Support’ and as such drew some parallels with Howard Pixton who was also a Manx air racer. I was surprised at the almost instant editing out of my references to Manx aviation and Howard Pixton as they seemed to fit the context of the narrative, something I understood was encouraged in Wikipedia. I am slightly concerned that whoever carried out the editing, knowing that Geoffrey Boot is not Manx born, chose to remove this reference for other reasons. Maybe I’m being paranoid but I would be interested to hear from the editing party. HenryCastle (talk) 14:53, 27 April 2010 (UTC)
- In general, Wikipedia articles about an individual are edited until they are wholly about that individual. References to other individuals who don't have Wikipedia articles are not especially useful to the reader, and references to individuals who do have Wikipedia articles are easily accomplished with an inline link. If you'd like to write an appropriately-sourced article about Howard Pixton, feel free to do that; you can then add inline links to other articles if they will inform the reader more fully. If you'd like to suggest that there is some sort of relationship between the accomplishments of the two gentlemen, that absolutely has to be backed up with a specific citation to an arm's-length third-party expert source of opinion; basing the correlation on your personal opinion that there is one is known here as original research and is not permitted. I'm sorry to say that I have no idea what the "other reasons" are to which you refer, but I suggest you dismiss them from your future considerations and assume good faith on the part of other editors until it's crystal-clear that that isn't present. NB: I've reinserted the citation needed tags once again; the considerable claims here do require citations. Hchc2009 (talk) 16:56, 8 December 2015 (UTC)
