Talk:Gentoo (file manager)/Pros and cons
Appearance
I moved the "Pros" and "Cons" section, as it stood at this date, out of the article and into this page. None of it is substantiated by sources, and much of it is expressed in a highly objective (and occasionally inflammatory) manner. It seems to me like the article is best off without it as it looks right now (last edit before mine was from November 2007, so I doubt wiki magic would happen if I just put a template in there: in fact, there already is one), but I'm still keeping it here if anyone wants to work on it. Pros
[edit]- Lightweight and easy to customize
- Nearly every aspect of customization available
- All the settings are configurable from a graphical interface
- Powerful internal scripting by passing commands into other programs via shell
- Single file settings for easy sharing
- Really powerful mouse behaviour that allow you to select, unselect, etc several files without having to press keyboard keys
- Possibility to open a file without losing all selection
- History of selected files allowing you to continue browsing and come back later with all that you selected kept as is
Cons
[edit]- Greatly unstable with a huge array of bugs
- Written in small chunks over a long period of time producing unique bugs
- Long periods between new versions making the bugs all the more annoying and persistent
- Mouse handling is different from others filemanagers that copy windows explorer behaviour, but once used to it, it's more an advantage than a problem.
- Does not function well with certain less predictable setups
- Disastrous internal viewer and shell output capture function
