Poor translation

[edit]

This article is so poorly written that it's almost incomprehensible. It's not just a matter of fixing grammar, spelling, and syntax, or I would do it myself; it really needs to be rewritten entirely. Matterington (talk) 05:38, 31 December 2015 (UTC)[reply]

I've done a copy edit and tried to make some sense of what was clearly English written by a non-English speaker. I think that what I have written says what the original author meant (although it was difficult, in places, to determine even vaguely what that was) and I have excised much verbose repetition. Since the article is in English and deals with the UK, I have changed the text and date formats to UK English and DMY.
I've also changed one sentence that quoted the agreement itself, since the quote didn't verify the assertion by the author at all. It was, I suspect, a quote being used in a very partisan way; I hope I have made the article more neutral than it was; others may think not and wish to edit further.

@Matterington and TeekeeyMisha: Thanks for your copyedit improvements. This was originally a machine translation created by someone using the misconfigured m:ContentTranslation tool. This needs to be looked at more in detail, n comparison with the Spanish article. As a first pass, I've tagged it {{proofreader needed}}, but it could well be in worse shape than that, in which case it would need {{rough translation}} so feel free to tag it so and list it at WP:PNT. (I've also taken the liberty of changing the section title from "[Untitled]".) Mathglot (talk) 04:24, 11 May 2017 (UTC)[reply]
I changed a couple sentences and tried to make them more concise and easier to understand. I'll continue working on this article if I have time. YixQ (talk) 04:10, 4 March 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Copyediting + retranslating

[edit]

Over the next week or so, I'll try my hand at retranslating/rewriting much of this page (so far, I've added the infobox and made the lead sound slightly better). The rest of the text is, as was previously stated, often unintelligible, and very clearly borrowing the Spanish syntax wholesale. We'll see if I burn out before getting to the end...

Might as well note that I think it would be better if the article were reframed in terms of what was actually happening in Guayana Esequiba, as the "History" section as is seems to imply a lot of background knowledge that just isn't provided. 22:18, 28 January 2021 (UTC)
