Concerning capitalization of gay/Gay and lesbian/Lesbian, etc.

[edit]

I suppose I stepped out on a limb here by returning these words to lower case after someone else had made them all upper case. I tried to do some research on this subject, and the best I could come up with was that in general usage these words, when used as a simple adjective, are still being written in lower case. The general exception to this was in reference to the Gay and Lesbian community, or more typically the Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual and Transgender (GLBT) community in current parlance. The words seem to be generally used in lower case in Wikipedia, see for example the article entitled gay, and the corresponding article entitled lesbian. The only real discussion I could find on this subject was in the article "The l-word, or the L-word?" at [1].

I put up four tags today. First off this article sites no refernces. There is no lead paragraph and there should be another one right after that, that is why I put the restructuring tag and lead paragraph tag. Also I put a neutrality tag on here because of the tone of the article, especially statements like "Energy level: The energy level tends to be higher in gay square dancing—tempos may be higher, more flourishes added, longer dances with shorter breaks." Can you explain how energy level is non-neutral --Shimonnyman 19:36, 16 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]
"A Guide to IAGSDC Conventions" was published online. Here is the link: http://www.danceinfo.org/articles/guide.html
Also, Gay Square Dance Convention has unique "tips". "Tips" in square dance term mean "dance". "Leather Tip" in IAGSCD convention probably can be classified as "high energy". One must be present to feel the "Leather Energy". It's a gay thing, I suppose. You can see a photo of the "leather tip" on the above mentioned "A Guide to IAGSDC Conventions", page 4.
Page 7 talks about the differences between traditional SD and Gay SD.
"Moonshine Tip" is also unique to Gay Square Dance. Yes, it means dancing naked. Everyone in the dance room must be naked, no exception. You can literally "see" the energy. What more evidence do you need? (lol) Sdinpdx 22:22, 26 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]
