quoting "gay marriage"

[edit]

My early-morning edit summary didn't come out clearly stated; I restored the quotes around "gay marriage" not as scare quotes, but to make it clear that it was their terminology and was what the ad was associating with the events being raised (most of which don't actually involve legally-recognized same-sex marriage.) --Nat Gertler (talk) 14:39, 25 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, I've got to say I don't see a need for the quotes - unquoted "same-sex marriage" is preferred as the NPOV term and unquoted "homosexual marriage" is unacceptable, but "gay marriage" is casually and widely used by RSes, doesn't seem particularly awful, and is used throughout WP; are we going to try to handle those hundreds of instances? Anyway, since there's some minor dispute over "gay marriage" being quoted, why not just paraphrase it as unquoted "same-sex marriage"? It seems to me that the significant meaning of the article text is NOM's assertion about the concept's effects, not the term. AV3000 (talk) 18:56, 25 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]
