[edit]Saulx - Tavannes. Antiguo linaje de la nobleza francesa cuya rama borgoñona arranca, al parecer, de Guy, conde de Saulx y señor de Grancey. Vivía Guy de Saulx, conde del castillo del mismo nombre ( que mandó arrasar Enrique IV en 1602 llamándole nido de ratas porque en él se habíam atrincherado los de la Liga), a fines del siglo X y aún no había muerto en 1057. En los viejos cartularios se encuentra escrito de varios modos su patrinímico: Saux, Saulx, Saus, Saulz y Saux, al lado de las formas latinas: Comunes Salicum (1175), Comes Salionis ( mismo año), Comes de Sauz ( 1179), Comes de Salcio, y por fin, hacia la misma época ( 1186), Comes de Salciaco. La genealogía se encuentra recopilada cuidadosamente en el tomo II ( Dijon, 1741) de Historia de Bourgogne de Dom Plancher, monje benedictino de la Congregación de San Mauro. Los Tavannes eran unos nobles suizos, esrablecidos en el pueblo del mismo nombre, vicus Theisvenna (866), en el actual cantón de Berna. Pretendían descender de cierto escocés de nombre Mac - Aber, llamado en el siglo X a restaurar los caminos de aquella comarca, que dependía entonces de la reina Bertha, hija del rey de Borgoña y casada en segundas nupcias con Roberto II el piadoso, rey de Francia, su primo, del que tuvo que separarse por razones religiosas. A Juan de Tavannes debieron los Saulx de Arc-sur-tille su encubrimiento y fortuna. El mariscal de Tavannes fue un ilustre guerrero, enemigo acérrimo de los protestantes. ==

“After the conquest of Calais in 1558…” (why is the aforeshown byworded anent Salaux?)

- This can be evidenced from Potter 'The Duc de Guise and the fall of Calais' (1983) in English Historical Review 98 388 pg 493.
- It would likely also be covered in Morgan 'The Government of Calais 1485-1558' (1966) pg 239-79, but I do not have access to this thesis. Sovietblobfish (talk) 10:01, 4 September 2022 (UTC)
