Gandhian socialism was not confined to a single political party; the BJP. More info could be added in this article that would talk of the trusteeship, JP movement, the Bhoodan movement etc. nihar (talk) 05:26, 6 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

considering adding mention of Gandhi's fairly famous quotes on socialism

[edit]

I don't understand why Gandhi's many discussions on the topics of socialism and Communism are left unmentioned here, and in his main article, and also on WIkiquote. Sure, his views were different from the mainstream Western understanding of the word, and sure- modern Marxists are hypercritical of some "remarx" he made about this and that.. but we should at least include his own stated POV, right? About 1,400,000,000 live in India, many of them are fans of both socialism and Gandhi.  We have one quote here of his on economics in general, and thats it. None on his views of socialism. That is sad. And then the article ends with:

"In 1938, during the formulation of an economic plan for the post-independent India, it was noted that the planning under a democratic India should be based not only on raising the standard of living by copying various socialist, capitalist, or a fascist nation's plan, but it should be centered towards its roots firm in Indian soil and India's problems.:"

Who noted this? Gandhi? If not, why is this relevant to the article? We can do better.
