Better pictures?

[edit]

Pictures of Gambas programs are not very representative. How about pictures of some nice GUIs, OpenGL projects etc? 88.114.61.210 (talk) 13:27, 9 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Bad translation

[edit]

Gambá means "skunk" in Portuguese... not Virginia Opossum.... it's my first language, don't question it. Peteturtle 18:44, 14 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

New Web site

[edit]

There is a new website about & for Gambas, which includes a bug tracker: http://www.gambasrad.org. Should that be mentioned here somewhere? Kirrus (talk) 17:58, 7 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Differences from VB

[edit]

This section claims VB array indexes can start with 0 or 1. Per the online help for VB5 and VBDos, array indexes can start with any legal index value. Ex:

Dim X(10 To 15) As String

IIRC ["if I remember correctly"], this was true of other versions as well. I'm not sure which version introduced the option. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 71.63.69.193 (talk) 06:33, 7 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Yes, all releases of "classic" Visual Basic (the versions prior .NET) provide arbitrary array indices. Maybe this should be mentioned in the article.

Execution speed

[edit]

The article says Gambas programs execute faster than Perl or Python scripts. This is a bit disingenuous. I had the opportunity to compare the GNOME 2 version of "Mines" with an example program of "MineSweeper" included with Gambas 3, and found the Gambas version of the game to respond rather sluggishly to mouse inputs as compared to the GNOME version written in C. There was no significant improvement in performance with the compiled Gambas version of the program, either. The article could be improved by adding some objective benchmark information on executable size, speed, etc. — QuicksilverT @ 19:37, 8 November 2013 (UTC)[reply]
