Black metal band

[edit]

I just removed the last edit, which stated that the band was (only) a Doom / crust punk band, because the metal archives reference in the infobox states that the band is Black metal / Doom metal / Crust punk. Also the peaceville website write about Gallhammer: Although Gallhammer had been known primarily as a black metal/punk act... Hervegirod (talk) 22:44, 20 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Doom metal?

[edit]

I think the doom metal elements of Gallhammer's style are really superficial. They're clearly most indebted to crust punk and black metal, and also have (to my ears) a strong noise rock connection. The doom metal aspect I think is mostly just Amebix's influence; crust borrows from Black Sabbath. I haven't seen Gallhammer cite a single doom metal band as influential. Upon further research, Slaughter does mention Cathedral. In any case, the sources all say black/doom/crust, so I'm not suggesting the page be changed. With that said, it seems to me that Gallhammer would be better described as "black sludge" than doom metal. Sludge is, after all, doom metal with hardcore punk and noise rock elements, which is definitely what Gallhammer is. For some reason, no one seems to call them sludge, however. Maybe because of there's no southern rock. Aryder779 (talk) 00:37, 27 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Doom metal is not as narrow as you try to define it, I personally think that Hellhammer should fit somewhere in a doom metal category too. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 209.63.116.221 (talk) 10:42, 3 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]
