Conjugation?

[edit]

Shouldnt, in the first sentence, "is" be changed to "was", seeing as he died in 1940 or smth?

Translation into English.

[edit]

Dear fellow editors,
I am leaving the present comment after separate, recent efforts from @PigeonOfTheNight: and myself to adapt, into fluent English, the initial (machine-generated?) text supplied in the present article by @Nervius Secundus: in January 2009.
There is still room for expanding the article but, at least for now, I dare say it's a little more meaningful!
With kind regards;
Patrick. ツ Pdebee.(talk)(guestbook) 02:59, 5 January 2016 (UTC)[reply]

@Pdebee: Whew. Well, that was hard XD
On another note, should I remove the "this article needs clean-up" template? Or is still more clean-up required?
Regards,
PigeonOfTheNight (talk) 06:01, 5 January 2016 (UTC)[reply]
@PigeonOfTheNight: Dear Pigeon,
Thank you for your message, complete with amusing quip! Typically, I apply piecemeal updates because the edit summaries can then be more precise and therefore more helpful to me later on and, of course, to other editors. Also, French is my mother tongue so, as you know, it's not too difficult to translate existing French articles, most of the time! However, it gets tricky when one attempts to translate a poem written in Quebec French!
As for your question: yes, if you think the article is now in good enough shape, please feel free to do the honours and remove the clean-up template, since you were the editor who first chose to improve it.
Finally, I am impressed with your dedication and I am in no doubt you'll achieve great things here over time. Well done and keep up the good work!
With kind regards;
Patrick. ツ Pdebee.(talk)(guestbook) 11:59, 5 January 2016 (UTC)[reply]
P.S. I hope you won't mind that I took the liberty of adding the ping template to the start of your message. Of course, I found your update through my watchlist, although an alert would have been more direct. (I hope I can be forgiven...)
@Pdebee: Dear Pdebee,
Thank you so much for your kind words! I'm so glad to hear that I did a good job fixing up this article.
In my opinion, the article still needs a little improvement (I've just noticed two more unfixed errors), but I think it's ready to have the clean-up template removed. So, here's to an article repaired! (raises wine-glass for a toast).
Respectfully Yours,
Maybelle. PigeonOfTheNight (talk) 04:29, 6 January 2016 (UTC)[reply]
P.S. Drat! I AGAIN forgot to add the ping template! Stupid me! >.< (hits self upside the head with heavy blunt object). Thank you for letting me know (and for fixing it). I really need to pay more attention to these little details XD.
@PigeonOfTheNight: Dear Maybelle,
You're most welcome. I agree with you fully about the article still needing further improvement (compared with the current French version), although it's certainly an acceptable stub for now. Well done also on spotting the residual typo I missed! I just realized I'd forgotten to check the captions, which also needed a bit of tweaking, now done.
So, congratulations on completing your first project of polishing a 'machine-generated translation', Maybelle, and thank you for tolerating my (uninvited) participation. You certainly deserve to enjoy that glass of wine in celebration (glug-glug-glug!...), and here's to all your future successes.
With kindest regards;
Patrick. ツ Pdebee.(talk)(guestbook) 12:31, 6 January 2016 (UTC)[reply]
P.S. Please be kinder to yourself (neither self-insulting nor self-applying of heavy blunt object on top of head warranted at this, or any other, time... ).

Foundation for future expansion.

[edit]

@PigeonOfTheNight: Dear Maybelle,

As you will have noticed, I tidied up the present talk page by adding date/timestamps to the signatures and headers to the earlier sections.

More importantly, I also added the Translated page template (required for attribution), with the recommended parameters linking the latest version of the English Wiki article as at today ('insertversion=698483980') to the French Wiki version as at 14 January 2009 ('version=37049453'), i.e. the date at which the original editor created the English Wiki article which was, of course, the version you decided to improve.

The reason I did this was simply to lay the foundation for you or any other future editor(s) to expand, at some future date, the current English version of the article in line with the then-current version of the French article which, as you know, has already been expanded significantly since 2009.

Although the creating editor of the English article had correctly given attribution to the French article (in the first section above), the template I've added today now makes the article adhere more fully to the guidelines in that the two versions of the articles are now tightly linked with regards to content.

If/when you decide to expand the English article in line with the current French version, then please feel free to let me know if you would like some assistance with adding an updated version of the template. Having said that, I'd never used it until today and found it quite easy to understand, thanks to its helpful documentation.

With kind regards;
Patrick. ツ Pdebee.(talk)(guestbook) 17:58, 6 January 2016 (UTC)[reply]

@Pdebee: Dear Patrick,
Thank you for doing this! Unfortunately, no matter how much I would like to, I will be unable to expand this article (for reasons which I would rather not discuss), so as far as this article is concerned, my work here is done . Hopefully, though, some other editor will decide to expand the article.
Thank you again!
Respectfully Yours,
Maybelle. PigeonOfTheNight (talk) 21:47, 6 January 2016 (UTC)[reply]
@PigeonOfTheNight: Dear Maybelle,
Thank you for your message. That's absolutely fine, and thank you for taking the time and trouble of letting me know of your intent regarding this article.
I respect your decision, of course, and also hope that it is not motivated by anything related to my interventions; if it were, then I would like to know, as we all need to adjust our behaviour for the benefit of the whole team; I know that, sometimes, I can help "too much".
In any case, the next editor approaching this article will find it ready for the next wave of activity, and in compliance with the guidelines on attribution and translation from a foreign Wiki.
With kind regards for now;
Patrick. ツ Pdebee.(talk)(guestbook) 22:10, 6 January 2016 (UTC)[reply]
@Pdebee: Dear Patrick,
Rest assured that my decision not to expand the article has nothing to do with you or any other Wikipedians. On the contrary, my reasons deal only with my life outside of Wikipedia. To put it simply, it's not your fault .
As for you helping "too much", that is complete nonsense. I deeply appreciate all the assistance you have given me, and I hope you will continue to help others the way you helped me . Goodness knows this site could use more Wikipedians like you around .
Respectfully Yours,
Maybelle. PigeonOfTheNight (talk) 22:31, 6 January 2016 (UTC)[reply]
@PigeonOfTheNight: Dear Maybelle,
Very many thanks for taking the time to put my mind at rest, and also for your very kind words of appreciation; I am deeply touched by your feedback.
More tomorrow (about your other request) and ... erm ... do leave one or two articles for other members of the Guild to have fun with!
With kind regards;
Patrick. ツ Pdebee.(talk)(guestbook) 22:42, 6 January 2016 (UTC)[reply]
@Pdebee: Dear Patrick,
You're welcome! And please don't thank me for my feedback. Stating the obvious truth is not a feat that should be commended .
Also, thank you again for accepting my request! I hope that's coming along fine .
Respectfully yours,
Maybelle. PigeonOfTheNight (talk) 03:25, 8 January 2016 (UTC)[reply]

@PigeonOfTheNight: Dear Maybelle,
You're too kind!
Your request has been handled and a new section opened at your talk page. Enjoy, and very best wishes of success!
