- ... that it is believed a favorite of Tsar Ivan the Terrible may have killed his own father to prove his loyalty to the Tsar?

"The tsar showed mercy towards Fedor Basmanov but, according to Kurbskii, the former favourite avoided death at a terrible price. He “at the last slew with his own hand his father Aleksei, the infamous blackguard or, in the foreign tongue, maniac and destroyer of his own soul and of the Holy Russian lands...Fedor Basmanov proved his loyalty to the autocrat, but did not escape disgrace."

- ALT1: ... that Ivan the Terrible was allegedly accused of having a homosexual relationship with a young court favorite of his?

"Another "threat" was a proclamation in 1564...protesting the murder without trial or investigation of the general Prince Dmitrii Fedorov Ovshchinin-Telepnev-Obolenskii (Ovchina-Obolenskii), who had accused Fedor Basmanov of having pederastic relations with the tsar (charges also made by Kurbskii and something one might expect of a paranoid). Ivan invited Ovshchinin to a feast, then ordered his kennel keepers to suffocate the guest in the cellar."

Translation: Kurbsky reproached the Tsar for "sexual perversion" with Fyodor Basmanov...Ovchinin quarrelled with Fyodor Basmanov and cursed him for unholy acts with the Tsar. The favorite went to the Tsar and in tears told him about the insult. The Terrible, angered by the audacity, invited Ovchinin to the palace and after the feast commanded him to descend into the wine cellar, to finish the celebration there. The drunk prince did not hear the threat in the words of the ruler and descended into the cellar, where he was strangled by the Tsar's huntsmen.

- Comment: Second DYK nomination by Jaguarnik, for now review of other DYK is not required. The draft was created on July 12 but moved to mainspace from draftspace on September 9, so still qualifies under DYK criteria. Update 23 September 2023 : I added English sources for reviewers who can't check in Russian.
Created by Jaguarnik (talk). Self-nominated at 07:44, 9 September 2023 (UTC). Post-promotion hook changes for this nom will be logged at Template talk:Did you know nominations/Fyodor Basmanov; consider watching this nomination, if it is successful, until the hook appears on the Main Page.
- Approved for ALT0 only; ALT1 is somewhat iffy. Article prose could be improved but that is not a DYK requirement. ~~ AirshipJungleman29 (talk) 20:21, 30 October 2023 (UTC)
