Merge with Future Perfect?
[edit]Is this topic (Future-in-the-past) distinct from Future Perfect? I am not a grammar expert, so perhaps I'll leave it to those more erudite to decide, but merely wanted to raise the question. If it is a distinct topic, perhaps this can be described in the article?GBMorris (talk) 12:46, 21 March 2022 (UTC)
- The future perfect is used when the even happened before a reference point in the future ("I'll leave work at 5. It will have stopped raining by then."). The future in the past is when the event is to happen after a reference point in the past ("I looked out of the window and saw the sunshine, so I left without taking the umbrella, unaware that a few moments later the worst downpour of the year would begin."). – Uanfala (talk) 13:46, 21 March 2022 (UTC)
