[edit]I thought the article was about Kress von Kressenstein? You Brits obviously cannot handle a thrashing, so whenever it comes to British defeats it seems to be necessary for you in an almost Discovery-Channel-like way, to mention how your failures were ultimately turned into successes. I think 30% of the article is about Friedrich von Kressenstein, the rest is "why he was ultimately thwarted by the glorious British empire". Grow the Hell up. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 90.185.172.119 (talk) 17:21, 19 April 2010 (UTC)

Purpose of the Suez Canal campaign
[edit]Maybe that Kemal Paša dreamt of taking over or crossing the Canal, but Kress' order given from the German central command was just to pretend this by needling the Canal again and again in order to keep as much as possible British forces tied in Egypt so that they could not be employed in the trench war in Europe. The German Central command was convinced that the war should and would be decided on European soil, not in the colonial world.
