Evolution and Origination

[edit]

How long have they been on the Australian continent ? Was it before or after the breakup of Gondwana ? Do they originate from there ? When was this species first noted in the fossil record ? When was it first encountered by European settlers ? --EvenGreenerFish (talk) 01:55, 6 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Original collector

[edit]

Was Sub-inspector Robert Johnstone (with an 'e') ... He was a policeman in charge of Native Police, but also a keen naturalist. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 110.175.121.168 (talk) 09:32, 30 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Do you have a source for that? HCA (talk) 16:01, 30 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Species is named for Robert Arthur Johnstone (1843-1905). I corrected article today, citing Beolens et al. (2011) Eponym Dictionary of Reptiles. "Sir Harry" (1858-1927) would have been only 15 when Krefft described this species. Also, Harry worked in Africa, not Australia. Lyttle-Wight (talk) 21:47, 18 October 2015 (UTC)[reply]
