I wonder whether the birth year, given as 1880, is wrong. I'm currently working an article for Fred Hobbs, who was Mayor of Christchurch and belonged to a prominent family (when his father died, theirs was the oldest existing company in Christchurch). One of his sons was Frederick Henry Hobbs, born on 29 July 1874, i.e. exactly six years earlier than the birth date given in this article. The obituary mentions the middle initial of the singer (H.), which I've added to this article. It also talks about five brothers being still in Christchurch (looking at the list of siblings, that could well be the case), and the family being musical (both the father and the oldest brother of Frederick Henry Hobbs were known as talented singers). So, where does the birth year in this article come from, and how reliable is the source? Schwede6620:06, 15 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Maybe The Times obit? In any case, Stone agrees with 1874, and Stone is very reliable, so I have changed the birth year to 1874. -- Ssilvers (talk) 17:18, 17 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]
