Kangaroo Speak

[edit]

What in the world does "bailed up" mean?

Australian English: "robbed, usually at gunpoint", equivalent to "held up" in American English.SRamzy (talk) 09:21, 20 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Headings

[edit]

The use of headings is completely in line with WP:Style guide policy. When I get more time I will build on this article stub. In the meantime stop your uneducated vandalism!Krait

Among my edits I corrected some errors which you have reverted to. I changed Rosshire to Ross-Shire which is correct (see the article) but you have reverted to the incorrect spelling of Rosshire. I corrected the spelling of the author's name, from Robet to Robert, but you have reverted back to the incorrect spelling of Robet. I changed his place of birth from America to USA but you have reverted it back to America. I am reverting to my version. It is fine if you want to incorporate your amendments/additions into my version IF you retain my corrections. If you revert again, I will take the page back to my version with the correct spellings and will protect the page. I trust you understand what protected page means. Your comment above, "uneducated vandalism", has not gone unnoticed. Moriori 02:29, 17 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Ok so let me try and get this right. You have trashed significant work (about 10 edits) on this article because a. you don't like headings; and b. you found a whole three(3) spelling mistakes? That sounds really fair, especially seeing none of your edit summaries mentioned anything about spelling mistakes! Rather your edit summaries did little but violate WP:Civility. Let me quote you: "sub headings were a bit over the top"; "Articles should not look like dogs' breakfasts. Such a small text can't justify sub headings" (I added the bolding as emphasis of your lack of civility). Agreed, I am guilty of falling into the trap of being a little uncivil on this talk page by calling your revert "uneducated vandalism", then again this is a talk page not an edit summary of the main page - in any case I apologise for that remark. Now how do I deal with your threat to block me if I revert anless I do things your way? Well I am going to try by reverting to my last version with all of the extra work, links, references etc. Then I will incorporate your 3 spelling corrections. If you revert again - I will seek Arbitration, as I obviously don't have Admin rights(I got your veiled threat there). Please ask yourself - How have you contributed to this article and the worlds knowledge of Frank Gardiner?, that is my sole aim and what I ask myself. I'm pretty comfortable with my contribution! PS. he wasn't born in the USA - he was exiled there, minor but significant! Krait 03:58, 17 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Believe me, there was no veiled threat from, but a promise. However, I see you have finally got the message. I have had another attempt to make this article confirm to Wiki[pedia style/standard. Incidentally, you were not a little uncivil at all, just downright insulting. Moriori 04:16, 17 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]
I can't believe your attitude on this, especially the threat to abuse your Admin rights. I'm not sure yet who to complain to, but when I figure it out I may copy them your above. Who started the "downright insulting" language? Who has made no attempt to resolve issues in a civil manner? I at least apologised for my pretty tame words about your vandalsim of the page. I note you carefully avoided answering any of my points above. I guess its too hard for you to admit you may have been wrong in any way? Krait 06:35, 17 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]
No Wikipedian has to accept your insulting charge of "uneducated vandalism!" (the very first sentence on this page). I have to make allowances because with less than 150 edits you are a newbie here, but I suggest you think before you leap in future. There are much less forgiving admins than me.Moriori 06:53, 17 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]
