unsourced specification and other edits
[edit]Since Keystone18 (talk · contribs) has eschewed the WP:BRD process, I'm instigating it for them and explaining in yet more words why I've again reverted some of their edits.
- The
|birth_place=
infobox parameter and its variable are removed because the article doesn't have a source for such a claim, as required by the verifiability policy. - None of the article's sources specify between East Hampton (town), New York and East Hampton (village), New York, and it's not our place to decide which is meant.
- Of the prose concerned with Gardner's wrestling coaching, only 28 percent is concerned with the collegiate level, while 72% is at the secondary-school level. As such, specifying one over the other in the infobox is disingenuous, and the
|occupation=
parameter has been changed to Wrestling coach. - The source cited for Gardner's origin does not specify the "Harrisburg–York–Lebanon combined statistical area", but instead "southern Pennsylvania", and to claim the former over the latter is in contravention of the verifiability policy and the prohibition of original research.
- I have no idea why Gardner's sourced full name was excised from the article, but it too has been replaceed.
I'm happy to answer any confusion or questions from any editors, here! — Fourthords | =Λ= | 17:05, 27 December 2022 (UTC)
- Thanks. If you look at the edit history, I did not add the place of birth to the infobox. It was already there. That metropolitan area I did add, since it is the direct link to Southern Pennsylania, and I only changed it to a direct link; I did not change "Southern Pennsylvania", which was already there. He came to Mepham in 1936, not '37
[edit]Reference 8 gives impression he came to Mepham in 1936. Mwinog2777 (talk) 19:31, 28 December 2022 (UTC)
- I'm not sure which reference number eight is, since the numbers change when we add sources. However, I have looked into the relevant sources. With regards to when Gardner began at Wellington C. Mepham High School:
- W.C. Mepham H.S. Alumni Association consolidates sources that said both 1936 and 1937
- Franklin & Marshall College said 1937
- The National Wrestling Hall of Fame and Museum said 1937
- The Bellmore–Merrick Central High School District said 1936
- The Friends of Long Island Wrestling said 1936
- Long Island Weekly said 1937
- Treasure Chest said 1936
- That's pretty evenly inconsistent, so I'll edit the page to simply reflect "1936 or 1937". (And frustratingly leave an incomplete edit summary, too.) — Fourthords | =Λ= | 17:16, 29 December 2022 (UTC)
