Title of Prince
[edit]- It is incorrect to call him "Prince Francis, Duke of Teck". This is an incorrect transference of British usage to a German title. Prior to becoming Duke, Franz was "Fürst von Teck". Although this is translated in English as "Prince von Teck", it was not the dynastic "Prinz" but was, rather, a title of German nobility, and as such ranked below "Herzog (Duke) von Teck". Styling him as "Prince Francis, Duke of Teck" is wrong because 1. he never used that style himself, nor was he properly known as such in England or Germany, and 2. it is improper, exactly as if the Marquess of Cambridge were to be promoted to Duke of Cambridge and proceeded to style himself "Marquess Francis, Duke of Cambridge". The ducal title superceded and "hid" the princely title, save for his issue. Queen Victoria's gift to him of the style of "Highness" did not convert Teck into a British royal dukedom, nor did it change the terms on which the Wurttemberg dukedom was granted.Lethiere 13:51, 24 April 2006 (UTC)
Moved it. Yanksta x 15:20, 16 May 2006 (UTC)
- Why has it been moved back? Ardric47 03:56, 5 June 2006 (UTC)
Place of birth
[edit]Where was he born? According to the German pages, it was Wien (Vienna). Groogle 11:58, 27 May 2007 (UTC)
- That's incorrect. Huberty et al. go into a full discussion of this point to prove that the original documents show he was born in Esseg and not Vienna as claimed by some genealogists. DrKiernan 06:41, 29 May 2007 (UTC)
Portrait Problem The portraits of Francis, Duke of Teck and his son Prince Francis of Teck are the same. 69.118.129.164 (talk) 22:59, 19 October 2010 (UTC)
