Updated references, added citations and content, expanded lead

[edit]

Hello fellow Wikipedians,

I expanded the lead paragraph and removed the request. I added and updated a number of citations as requested in 11/17, but did not remove that request enitrely because there are still some unsubstantiated sections, particularly in Career. I removed one Popular culture reference that was demonstrably wrong, and added the recent Renwick Exhibit of the Nutshell Studies. I added requests for an image and an infobox.

Article refers to subject sometimes as Lee and sometimes as Glessner Lee; does this need to be resolved?
